Barney's profile? If you find it ugly, just don't shave it. There will always be beard lovers. A select group perhaps, but they do exist. The luthier in my town had a real one (Gibson) about 7 years ago, traded in by some guy. It was sold for hfl. 3500.- which would be EUR 1600.- today, for a Gibson that is. I don't know what to think of these Maxon pickups. I have a few Maxon Fender humbucker imitations, but I had trouble with them (too high resitance), but that was in a combination with a replaced single coil. Two of the same pickups won't bite each other, I guess. Btw, now I'm thinking of it: I still have that compensated ebony bridge waiting in the drawer... Ginger |

No question about it folks - It's beautiful in that Mid Century Funky Jetsons way if you're in to that. It's Cool! & The thing's like a time capsule. And yet... I just can't imagine that it's very comfortable to play. |

I love the condition and the shine on the finish. It's not my personal favorite shape, but there's something about a minty old guitar that i just love. |

obviously taste is not argueable. i love my PM100 but others say it's ugly and, by the way, that's a double-cutaway archtop. quoting from www.provide.net/~cfh/gibson.html :
Barney Kessel Regular and Custom Electric Archtops Available: 1961 to 1974 Collectibility Rating: D- (an ugly model, though those with spruce tops and P.A.F. pickups could be OK). 1961 Barney Kessel Regular specs: 17" wide, full depth body (some with laminated spruce tops), double pointed cutaways, 2 humbucking pickups, tuneomatic bridge, trapeze tailpiece with raised diamond and model name on wooden insert, laminated beveled edge pickguard, triple bound top and back, 25.5" scale, bound rosewood fingerboard with double parallelagram inlays, bound peghead, crown peghead inlay, nickel plated parts, cherry sunburst finish. 1961 Barney Kessel Custom specs: Same as above but with "bowtie" fingerboard inlays, musical note peghead inlay, gold plated parts. Both Barney Kessel models discontinued 1974.

"the hofner has the advantage of having a built-in amplifier" and after the gig when the clubowner doesn't pay you can always use it as an AXE to chop his head off....funny looking guitar...every guitar has a purpose... |

Compare the Ibanez features with the features of this Conrad. The seller thinks it's a 1960s guitar, and the Maxon pole pieces aren't there (yet?). Zero fret has already disappeared. Ebay Item #180185180180 Harry and Hasy, what do you think? 1967-'69? Was Conrad related to Fuji Gen or to Hoshino? Ginger |

pat, this one would be much better to solve that problem: www.fetishguitars.com/html/wandre/bikini/index.htm l sbg3000, check the above site if you like oddities... it's plenty of '50s crazy guitar designs (highly creative, btw). |

LOVE this site Petruz and especially LOVE Wandre Guitars! They're just so Italian Mid Century Artist cool. Could have something to do with my fetish for Buddy Miller's playing - Not at all like most Ibanez player hero's of mine Petrucci, Vai, Satch, Etc..., but a TONE MONSTER just the same. And this shot with Sen. Lehey cracks me up: Mark |

wandre was surely one the most freakin' creative guitar designers, and used new materials, like alluminium for the necks, surely ahead of his time. do you have a link to buddy miller? |

Here are a couple of links. http://www.buddyandjulie.com/index.html www.newwestrecords.com/buddymiller.php His last album was on NEW West but there are many earlier albums you can find through the Buddy and Julie site and some very notable work with Emmylou Harris - Especially check out the live Spyboy album, a tour with Buddy Miller as her side man resulting from the Daniel Lanois produced album "Wrecking Ball". If you don't know this guy's playing you might find it interesting - just be prepared to wade through the more traditional Country / Americana stuff to find the guitar jam jems of a Rockabilly / Early Rock & Roll / Rolling Stones ... It's hard to categorize... kind of style. The Wandre guitars shown through an old Vox Amp. It's Killer! |

interesting outcomes of the 2 Barney Kessel models maybe! Although the reserve wasn't met on the gibson the bids weren't a million miles away from each other at the close, $2114.80 compared with $2026.66 for the Ibanez. although 7 bids to reach this on the gibson as opposed to 47 for the 2356. There are of course a few factors that would effect interest, like the gibson is a UK only auction which must cut down the audience somewhat. I wonder how many of each were made as this would effect desirability as well. Ebay Item #170174511386 Ebay Item #160184765277 |

Oh uh, guys... The Barney was sold for EUR 1,384.00 (approximately US $2,029.50). Not bad for the "ugliest guitar ever made". Ginger |
