She's nice, but it's at $1,224 with another day to go! There's even a ding near the tone pots. Ebay Item #260186833162 mk |

I'm 99.9% sure that's the guitar I just sold to "Tony" in Boca Raton Fla. last month. He saw my add here in the Classifieds. I got 800 and I paid for shipping. He "said" he was buying it for his son and when he received it, they both "couldn't be happier" Everything from the ding near the knobs to the kiss on the headstock. The give away would be a slight crack in the neck pup ring near the neck topside. From the pics I can't quite tell. Oh well such is life. I hope that he and his son found something else to make them " their pants" happy. With the money I picked up a minty 99 G&L Deluxe and haven't looked back. |

Wow, you can imagine I'm enjoying this development. But I love the axe too much too sell. Boo, I think the G&L is a good investment too, if it isn't the cheap Tribute series. I noticed on every one of those a tiny round spot with filler in the headstock. They used the hole to hang the neck in order to spray the neck with clear coat. A Fender specialist warned me for them. Okay... I'm sure you're all watching with just 4 hours to go, but $1,525.00? Impressive! I guess Michael was right about a record. For the life of me, though, I can't figure out the lackluster result of this 2630 by comparison: Ebay Item #300173306158 I'd personally rather have the truly classic model with this nice wood and MOP than get hung up about a little tarnished hardware. The hardware can always be replaced - the wood can't. Others? |

And I just got this 2630 for $999. Maybe the Ibby collecting world is full up of 2630s? Ebay Item #180183973187 |

Well, what does a record in US dollar say in the international vintage market, considering the development of the US currency? Right now the Dollar is worth EUR 0.68 And a Euro is worth $1.46625 Now, if we look at the guitar that Saltapaya bought, we see a dollar price of $1599.- and if I remember it well, an exchange rate fluctuating between S1.32 and $1.37 for 1 Euro, back then. So actually it's partly inflation of the dollar, what we see until now, because $1525.- is EUR1033.- This only shows that, like Dave_G shortly pointed out, it's better to have collectibles than dollars, certainly at the moment. I find the price level of EUR1033.- nice, but not shocking, if international bidders are involved and regarding the excellent condition. I actually should go to bed now, but I also want to see how this ends. Ginger |

Chucke99 - That was a good buy! Looks like a closet classic with little or no tarnish on those Flying Fingers for ya. A bit sideways into the gassing pickguards topic but I'm curious about the one on that 2630. Let us know when you get it if you think it's original or not. I haven't seen an original without the binding before and it kinda looks like a repro. Mark |

I'll try to ask the seller if it's original or replacement. It doesn't look original, but it's a one-owner guitar and has been in its case for 15 years, so if it wasn't replaced 15 years ago, then it may be original. |

You know what may happen with an original tortoise one when it stays in the case for 15 years? I hope you're right, of course. But even if it is a luthier made copy after carefully tracing the original, it can be used to make more of them. Just compare every detail with the catalogue pic. http://www.ibanez.ru/info/catalog/1978/07.jpg Ginger |

My 79 AS200 pickguard lost all its binding. Its weird, the guitar is really clean condition, yet for some reason the binding came completely of the pickguard all the way around. So maybe same thing happenned to the pickguard on the 2630?? |

In the 1978 catalog, the 2629 (dot neck) has a pick guard that looks like the one on my guitar. I see three possibilities for mine, from most likely to least likely, now: 1) It's the original guard, but the binding fell off, like on Jerry's; 2) It's original but it's a 2629 guard, as Ibanez has been known to mix up parts from time to time; 3) it's a replacement. Again, I'll ask the seller (once I have it). I don't want to ask now and seem like I'm complaining. I can barely stand to wait to get this baby. |

"My 79 AS200 pickguard lost all its binding. Its weird, the guitar is really clean condition, yet for some reason the binding came completely of the pickguard all the way around." Exactly what happened to me as well with my '81 AS200. I glued it back on, but with dubious results. |

Emckenrick, Jerry, any possibility of posting pictures of your guards? Emckenrick, I'd be especially interested in seeing what the binding looks like, even if dubiously restored. Thanks. |

It is a mistake to think that you need glue. I think you get a better result, if brush a little acetone (nail polish remover) on the edge of the (cleansed) tortoise and press the (cleansed) binding against it. Then the materials melt together. Ginger |
