Hello, Did some of you experiment some string tension adjustment with the special GB10 tailpiece. What are the effects supposed to be on the sound or playability ? |

Emeurant, I've found that excessive tension at the tailpiece limits some of the top vibration, therefore decreasing notes from blooming. With flatwound strings this is even more pronounced. Some jazzers like that 'thump-thump' sound. Others like a more lively string response. Loosening the tension screws just a bit allows the top to vibrate more. Adding roundwound strings give even more life to GB10's. Experiment with yours and you'll find it truly is a great and versatile guitar. |

Thanks a lot for the info. I currently have .13 flatwound strings on it and feel it too big. I will try .11 or .12 flatwound to get a less bumpy sound. This guitar seems to be very sensitive to string changes. I will experiment a bit in this way. |

String tention is very important on archtop in terms of tone, natural sound volume and crispness( i think tha's the right word to discribe it). Some people say it doesn't matter. Well, it is matter to me. It's highly personal i think. I do set ups myself ans some time it makes me nuts. So, from time to time,I ask pros to do it. Sometime I don't agree what they did. i try to analyze why they set up the guitar like that. There got be some logical ideas of their own,if they trully good pro. Anyway, tention is important i think. That's what adjustable tail piece for. The biggest problme that I heard from repair guy is that this tail piece has too many morving parts, that gona be out of tune. So, I think it is good idea to let pros to do the set up. They use some sticky staff to hold morving parts. In this way, is is adjustible but tight enough to keep the tuning. |

Well I agree with the importance of string gauge (especialy for acoustic guitars), but what about string tension. What is the real effect of the angle of the strings to the bridge. I disagree with the effects of the GB10 moving tailpiece on tune stability |

"I disagree with the effects of the GB10 moving tailpiece on tune stability" -Good to hear that! About the problem,I heard from a repairman. He loves Ibnaez, but he seems personally hate GB10. Maybe his GB10 had a problem. I think the string tention do changes the sound a lot. You should change it. Then You will know. Once, you start doing it, then you need either master the way it is ideal or go to pros. I do it myself, and when I have questions, go to pro. |
