Someone was looking for a "player" GB10, well here is one that looks a little beat, binding is discolored a bit but it's a Natural finish '81. Nuff Said...

Maui must be hard on guitars! The BIN of $3000.00 must be a joke. The pictures don't jive with this description: "IS IN GREAT SHAPE PHYSICALLY WITH A FEW EXCEPTION'S". |

Maui is very hard on instruments, actually, the RainSong company was started there to address this very issue!
Hmmm, I wonder..... GB had a home and studio in Maui, it is a long shot but......... |

That baby has been PLAYED! Not only is the binding discolored, so is the body. Looks like it was played by a naked, sweaty hoola dancer! Could be mineral streaks in the maple however.
Also the tuning pegs appear to be black Grovers. Need a close-up shot of the headstock front and back to see what's up, and the serial number.
If bidding stays low enough it could be a good 'player' GB...but what about the fret condition?? If it has had a rough life, it may need more work (i.e. $$$). |

A few years ago, I saw some really beautiful instruments made of Koa on display at the airport in Honolulu. I wonder if that species is more durable than spruce and maple.
I just can't figure the logic of putting a $3000.00 BIN on an auction that starts at $700.00 and for a guitar that is in such dubious condition. |

You look hard enough at the photo of the label there is the serial number there... Yeah it has non-original tuners, the binding is discolored some and it's beat. But it's been played and IF you can get it close to the opening price it'd be worth it. Someone was asking for a "player condition" GB10 so I thought it was worth mentioning... |

That was me, but WOW this thing looks bad. I have already emailed the owner about other pics, and the tuner issue, he did not respond. The owner should take a look at the other GB auctions and learn that you need to provide detailed pics of everything from action to frets, to the playing damage. |

Well player guitars are not necessarily perfect or completely stock instruments - just functional... A player. Not a COLLECTOR...
As for Ibanez replacement tuners for GB-10s you can get any authorized Ibanez dealer to order them for you - I did that for mine last year, cost about $70.00 american dollars and a 10 day wait.
But those black Gotoh/Grover's would work. |

This one is pretty beat though - and the BUY IT NOW price the guy has, HE'S DREAMING !!! LOL
Keep looking as you will find a good one one of these days - sometimes it's best to save your money for the ONE GREAT ONE you don't have to do anything to except put the kind of strings on it you prefer...
I got a great guitar pedal over the weekend - a buddy of mine from a Cuban Cigar board designs and hand wires his own line of pedals. He's got a new one based on a Dumble Overdrive Special amp - and I got a hand wired prototype - it's ugly as sin on the outside (just an unpainted aluminum chassis). But with my GB-10 plugged into the pedal and the pedal into my old Fender Deluxe Reverb (blackface) it's amazing... I've always marveled at the flexibility of tone you get from a GB-10.
MANGENOT: you keep searching - watching what happes with these auctions is always "educational". |

Well I don't want to say too much about my friend's prototype pedal until he has his patent, and I've never owned a TS-9 or any other distortion pedal so can't A/B them for you.
BUT having hooked up my GB10 to this pedal and then into my Deluxe Reverb I was quite happy... Gorgeous crunch and easy distortion... My next turn with it is using a Godin ACS Slim Nylon string or my Ibanez Roadstar LE450 nylon string - dirty up the tone a little it'll be fun...
Knob layout left to right:
volume, ratio, mid, bass, treble, gain
I'll try to attach a photo too, but the one I have here at work is sorta bleak and might be too bid to post... Otherwise I will take a nicer shot once home and post it. Remember this is an unpainted case, all point to point hand wired... |

Seen wtih settings as it is this was the Neil Young DOWN BY THE RIVER tone setting - using the GB10... it was great. I'm either gonna get arrested for disturbing the peace or a citation at least !! LOL...

I already want one of those pedals!! And what is the 'Ratio' knob dialing in? Is that a mini-compressor circuit or a blend or gain control? How close is the sound to a real Dumble? OK, I know Dumbles are custom tuned amps...costing huge bucks, but the questions have to be asked. |

Another alternative is a used Heritage jazz box. Made in the USA by ex-Gibson luthiers. They've got a ton of quality packed into their products. I think they are one of the best jazz guitar values on the used market. |

and I never had the pleasure of playing a real Dumble. Have any of you ??? I'd love to hear about that. THIS pedal sure makes my old Deluxe Reverb scream and cry and at low volumes... it's great. |

OK speaking of PLAYER CONDITION guitars - here's a little mind teaser. This photo was taken in 1990 at a gig - this now Ibanez endorser's main guitar (at the time). The photos just do not show how grungy this guitar is - how beat to hell it is. It's got gaffer's tape all along the sides of the body - it's FILTHY dirty and really beat... BUT the guy playing it made it SING. Guess the artist.
