Gb 10 tailpiece please explain

The greater the angle of the string as it passes from bridge to anchor point, the more it pushes down where it touches the bridge. It's just vector physics -Sven Guitartim Username: Guitartim Registered: 04-2001 Posted on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 - 10:31 am:    Chrisbr, As stated, the adjustable tailpiece allows for tension of either the high strings (G, B, E) or low strings (E, A, D). As Bigmike stated, some archtops have individual adjustments for each string as on the six-finger tailpiece. By backing off the GB10 tailpiece screws, the tension is less, thereby creating a little slack in the strings. The reverse happens when those same screws are tightened. This is intended to create either more or less string vibration from the guitar's top since the tailpiece causes a bit of downforce on the bridge as well as the strings that lay across the bridge. More tension increases the top's vibration and dynamic response to string attack. Too much tension could create a slight deadening or 'thump' sound from the strings. With just the right amount of tension, there should be increased sustain and better tone. You should adjust the tension to suit your individual playing style and desired sound. GB tailpiece adjustments have nothing to do with the height of the strings off of the fret board. That is adjusted by the bridge height and truss rod. Hope this helps.
