Author Message Ibeenjazzed Username: Ibeenjazzed Registered: 07-2005 Posted on Friday, July 29, 2005 - 5:59 pm:    Hello, I just stumbled upon this site, glad to know I am not alone in my appreciation for these older Ibanez's. I recently picked up a very clean 1985 blonde fg100 and I love it. I have had it about two weeks now, and wish that I would have known about sooner. I have already had several questions answered by reading other posts, but I have a few more questions. First, mine has only the bell side strap button, and the strap button is shaped like a "V". There is not one on the neck side. The first question is, does anyone one have one/know where to find one? Second, when I find one can I just drill a small pilot hole into the butt of the neck or is there any truss rod business going on there? Also, was this standard practice on all FG's/FA's? If someone has a pic of one that is factory or moded I will consider naming this guitar after you. Did they just think that we would tie a shoestring to the headstock like Joan Baez or something? One last question, I went out on a limb and got this one on ebay without knowing much about them. Boy was I releived when it got here. I have asked the locals the blue book on it and I get the same reply, "Are you sure it is not an FA 100, cause if it is, it is worth about $900/$1100." I know that these two models are close in description from what I have read on this site, but what is the real street value prices of these two guitars? Oh yeah, it is noteworthy that my PRS McCarty hollowbody hasn't seen much action since this new guitar has come on the scene. Also, is the year that it was made the first two numbers of the serial number? Those two you have side by side look like alot of fun. What do you prefer about each? When another member of this forum sold his FG100 a couple of months ago it went for $900, but I think that was leaning towards the high end. I got both of mine used and they came with the strap buttons installed. I have however installed strap buttons on a couple of other Ibanezes at the same spot and had no problems. As for my preferences, please see my response in the thread below. They are different and I like both. My favorite Ibanez is still my AS50 though. This format is true until 1987 when it got changed. Do a search and you'll find quite a few discussions on this subject. His solidbody electrics, based on the S series, were called the FGM series. Don't know whether the FG100 is still produced in Japan...but I doubt it. The part about the AF200 being the TOTL, non-signature jazz box is true. FG stands for "Full (hollow) Guitar". In '82 +/-, when the FG100 showed up, 23 year old fresh off the plane form AU, Frank Gambale would have been spending his first year as a student at GIT in hollywood. And I don't think he became interested in hollowbodies until the nineties, when he mellowed a bit, cut down the rocker hair and started playing a GB10 sometimes. The AF series replaced the FG100 in the late '80s. There would be no reason to produce both at the same time. I think he might have been looking at FGM production dates - The FGM models sure look a lot different than the FG100. I also wish they would be a little more thoughtful in their descriptions. I've gotten to the bottom of some reviews only to find that the reviewer doesn't even own the friggin instrument, just some kid who tried one out at the store after school I'm as guilty as anyone of spending countless hours on H-C. But sometimes I wonder how useful it is. It seems to be comprised of 98% glowing reviews. How can 98% of all guitars be way above average? -Sven
