Man! 3 grand! It said one owner. Joe played it (for a minute or two I guess) in 1993 at Blue note Fukuoka Japan. Joe signed it. Is the joe's signature on the body increase the value? I have played Joe's last guitar which is GIbson custom 175(one pick up)at john Pisano's house. It is just guitar except the fact that it used to be played by Joe pass. Oh well,it is custom made for Joe,so it worth 3 grand. But this was a regular JP20 with just sign on it. |

Years ago a guy was selling two artist owned Ibanez's on eBay. Don't know what part of the entertainment biz he was in but the story he had listed on his ads was he was GIVEN the two guitars by the artists. They were a really gorgeous Ibanez GB12 and a really pretty Ibanez JP20... each signed on the back of the guitar (by GB and JP) and the signature was covered in some peel off clear plastic (like the stuff they put on pickguards now but real clear). Each guitar had the most amazing woods... The GB12 was listed TWICE before it sold, the JP20 I don't know what happened to it... BUT the point of the story was the JP20 had been modded - it had a small BLACK floating humbucker, neck attached. The way the guitar was sunbursted from a short distance you would not notice the floating pickup... Word was that it had been put on because the artist wanted the tone you get from a pickup being closer to the neck... It think a couple of the old timers here would remember that set of auctions... the seller had multiple photos shot back stage with each artist and it seems they knew him very well. ANYONE here remember that set of guitars and who the person was ?? (as I tell my Ma, ONLY ON EBAY !! LOL) For my own personal preference I like the tone of the pickup when it is CLOSER to the end of the fingerboard, thus a JP20 as cool looking as it is otherwise ain't my cup of tea tonally... I think you get more of a midrangey sound with the JP20 pickup being where it is... Big |
