Can a nice full sized hollowbody (MIJ) be purchased for $1,000? I have been tooling around looking for one and I think for now, I am not interested in a ES175 copy. So, what would everyone recommend looking for? Stacey |

All I have seen are ES-175 or L5 copies or their variants and not Ibanez's in that price range. A couple of exceptions because of poor condition or no shipping (Ibanez). If you solve the problem give me a hint how to do it Juha |

I see that the GB30's went for a little more money than $1000. What L5 variants (or Ibanez) are out there for the money I would like to try and pay? Stacey |

Sabeking, I've got a MIJ L-5 copy by Hondo (not Hondo II) that was made in the Tokai factory in '81 and I love it. I got it for 500 euro. There's no problem with experimenting, everything you'll buy you can sell back and sometimes even with a profit, that's probably the good thing about it. The bad thing is the rising prices |

Tristan, I forgot about your posting a couple of weeks ago. I just looked at it again. Very nice looking guitar. Am I still wishful thinking about the $1000 Ibanez non ES175 copy full hollow body? Stacey |

A MIJ Ibanez? A GB or PM are out of question, too small for you (?), an FG or FA are 175 "copies" and that leaves you the 2470\60 L-5, a Jazz Artist (might be 175ish too, it's a maple top but a nice one) or the 2455. I never saw one for less than 1000$. But you can get one between 1200$-1600$. |

Tristan, Thanks for the info. A 2470 and/or 2460 are possibly available for between $1200 - $1600? If that is the case, then how available are they and how nice are they? Stacey |

I saw two 2455 models that went for $1000.- One had no logo and the other was Gibsonized with MOP Gibson inlays. But these are L-4CES copies (just as big/small as the ES-175. What's said about it in "Ibanez, the untold story" (Ibanezfreak pictured page 176 in another thread) is an ERROR. IT IS NOT AN L-5CES model, but an L-4CES replica. Ginger |

"...an FG or FA are 175 "copies" " The difference between FG and FA are more than just Florentine vs. Venetian, they are totally different guitars. |

tristan, i agree plainly with acetan, FGs and FAs (and i include AFs too) are different and imho much nicer guitars. people use to insist with the "175 copy" thing simply because they don't know how to define them better, besides the fact that the ES175 is a "peoples standard" for jazz guitars. |

I wasn't trying to insult the FG or FA even for a moment. I said 175 "copy" only size wise, because I thought that that's what matters to him. Because of the way it was referred to from the beginning of this thread. and I think the location of the pickup, alredy closer to the neck starts to make a difference. btw, about the 2455. It has a spruce top so you already get a different sound from it. When Sabeking wrote that he's not interested in a 175 copy, I thought he talks about the size and maple top. Anyways, I'm sorry if I've got anyone offended, it wasn't intended.. |

Tristan, I appreciate your help. Heck, I appreciate everyone's help. I am sure everyone has good intentions. So, what are the tonal difference's between the 175 copies and the FA/FG guitars? Stacey |

Hi Tristan, Absolutely no offense taken. Just wanted to state the facts. One of the significant differences between the FA and the FG is the size. The FA is much thicker. The FA is on the left and the FG is on the right.

Sixvsix was quite enthusiastic about his 2455. But I guess, that Stacey meant L-5 or Super 400 size when he wrote FULL SIZE. So I guess he would go for the 2460 (laminated spruce top) and 2470 (solid spruce top) if they only were affordable (and not $2800.-) My advice: try to find an Aria L-1000 or PE-180, or one of the other brands than Ibanez from the Fuji Gen Gakki factory or from the Terada factory. Bradley for instance. Ginger |
