About to attempt a set-up. Looks to be some relief on the neck at present. Not bad buzz but could be better. Intonation needs help. Any hints? This will be my first 'set neck' set-up. |

everyone has different preferences and playing styles. But I like a little relief in my necks, maybe 1/32" or so (measured by fretting a string at the 1st and last frets and measuring the gap in the middle - this takes 3 hands, or 2 hands and a capo. I usually just eyeball it). It is different from one guitar to another. Anyway, my method for setting relief is to lower the action until I start to get buzz. If the buzz is near the nut, there is too little bow. If the buzz is near the pickup, too much bow. I slowly increase or decrease tension in quarter turns until the buzz is more or less uniform - all the while adjusting the bridge height. Then I raise the height of the bridge until the buzz is tolerable and the feel is right. -Sven |
