Petruz: Ooowww, she's a beauty! Definitely an '88. What color is it? Black, blue or dark gray? Let us know what you think of it. |

"only her hairdresser knows for sure" (quote from a really old ad for women's hair coloring). Petruz, it is a lovely guitar. You see the thread I started saying that George Benson's got a DVD coming out on November 1, a GB show from Montreaux 1986 ?? Can't wait for that... BigMike |

I'm thinking that TK stands for Transparent Black. But that's just a guess. |

thanks guys for the support! i really wanted one of these, and searched for at least six months. this guitar has a transparent black finish (somewhat faded in this photo). underneath there's a glorious bird's eye maple. impossible not to wander how stunning it would be in a, say, amber finish... anyway... it's very classy this way. photos soon. |

I still have this empty spot reserved for an AM400. Anyone got a white or an orange burst that you're tired of? Ace |

i found the tone of this guitar to be surprisingly dark (at least with the neck pickup; the bridge one is somewhat trebly. but who cares about bridge pickups?). thechnically i would say the am400 is a "semi semi": more transparent than a solidbody, but less airy than a full semiacoustic. i mounted thomastick flatwounds, 0.13/0.53 wich are equivalent in terms of load to d'addario's 0.12s; to my taste this guitar delivers a good contemporary jazztone, and i got her to do that. playability is fantastic, fast neck and principally lightweight and ergonomic. believe me or not, when i got it the owner had filled out the cavity with fiberglass foam, it took me a good hour to take it out by pieces. what a genius this guy is. as johns pointed out tk stands for transparent black. this finish is exquisite in the sense that the guitar appears to have an inner light 'cause of the curled maple shining through. but again... i'd like to see this curly top just under a very light natural/amber finish... like some artfields wich it resembles a bit. |

Petruz~ Absolutlely gorgeous AM400TK! She looks hardly played. I'm surprised that the tone is so dark at the neck pickup...but for jazz that's a good thing. And you may find adjusting either p'up up or downward will further fine tune its tone. If those are Super 58's, they respond very well to slight adjustments. Lowering the bridge p'up a bit may take away some of the harshness. If you lose some of the power, you can then raise the individual screws or adjust the volume up/down to sweeten to taste. Congratulations finding such a great guitar. |
