Actually not quite. I'm thinking of having a punt. What is is about the wine finish that makes Ibanez guitars from this era so desirable to us collector/enthusiast types? Is it the rarity or is it because its such a nice colour? six |

I was going to bid on it. I guess you struck a deal w/ the seller. Is the wine finish original? Will he put the Super 80's w/ the covers and rings back in? If you're passing, please let me know & tell me why. mk |

Hi Mike, Since posting this thread, the seller and I have come to a mutual price that we are both happy with and it's on its way to me from Ireland. He is including all the original parts which is nice. I chatted to a couple of other members before I bought and had the seller send me some additional pics that I passed around. We all concured that as far as we could tell by the photographs, the finish is original. I think the shot of the rear of the headstock details the originality of the colour very well. The seller was certain that the finish is stock too. I think I'm going to like this guitar, I prefer the full size Ibanez models based on the 335 as opposed to the smaller AS200 shape. The maple 2630 I owned previously was too heavy for me to gig. Having owned a 2457 made of birch (same construction as the 2629) it was lighter in weight and had a smoother tone too. Anyone else seen a wine 2629? six |

How does the SA100 & SA400 compare with the 2629/2630/AS200? |

Hello again Mike I can't give you a direct comparison but according to my reference material the body materials and construction of the 2629 is the same as the SA400 and SA100. However, the details state that the neck on the 2630/2629 is rock maple and is laminated maple on the SA's. It's probably the same construction but the headstock shapes are different. There are also obvious ergonomic layout differences too. I would hazard a guess and say that the neck profiles are all the same. This all makes perfect sense in terms of manufacturing and factory costs. You don't see many SA's about though. The AS200 is a smaller body than all of the above but comparable to the 2630 in terms of spec. six |
