found this beauty last week. early '87 (H700773), it has almost all of the "old" AS200 features: big castle headstock, 1-piece mahogany neck, pointy cutaways. tri-sound affects the bridge pickup. i'm not certain if older AS200s had brass/bone nuts or not - i'd surely like to have it. just a year ahead of this one ibanez changed it all (i DO like late '80s/early '90s AS200s a lot, too - smaller headstock, 3-piece neck and d'acquisto f-holes). i'm not accostumed to the weight, compared to my AM400 it's a tank. anyway... i found the neck to be wondrously playable, i have the impression that it is slimmer in depth than the AM. maybe i'll put a thread on that.

Petruz~ Very sexy! And the guitar ain't too shabby either. I love AS200's of all vintages, races and creeds. And that Howard Roberts won't get tossed out of bed either. |

Nice score Petruz! They are heavy and cumbersome, but the tone is worth it. My '81 has a deeper, fuller more powerful resonance than the AMs I think. -Sven |

Yes tim, the guit is very sexy, TOO. Dalia, of antique iranian origins, is a terrific singer... |

Petruz~ Got any sound clips/mp3's or CD's of your group? And...I never thanked you for the ICW thread showing the EBay 'Italy' posting of that blonde AS200NT that I scored recently...from New Jersey, USA! That is the most bizzare guitar transaction I ever made. I absolutely Love that instrument! Man, I owe ya one! Looks like you've scored quite a nice batch of IBZ's yourself lately. Very cool! Thanks again! |

tim, i'll post a link with something we did. regarding your AS200 you're welcome! i'm glad to see you got that beauty. i love guitars with natural finish. just the other day there was an stunning and rare AF200NT here in italy, but the guy asked 1000 euros for it... a little too much for me. siv, i'm a rossi fan, but i can tell you dalia's much cooler. biagi is a bit weird for my taste. |

I know this is off topic but, is the guitarist on the other side of Dalia playing a Howard Roberts? |

Hi Petruz, The graphite nut on your AS200 is original, not a mod. Ace |

AARGH! this HURTS! i'd love to have this feature in my guitar, and a can see no reason why ALL superior archtops don't have it (well, probably it's expensive). i always do the setups by myself and a good nut setup, in my opinion, can change things from water to wine. i don't understand why most people don't care about it. a good guitar action is given by a correct bridge height, proper neck relief AND a properly set-up nut. in most cases i've seen, even in guitars wich had been setup by luthiers, this "detail" is forgotten. people tend to think that the action is what we have on the right of our left hand fingers; but the height of the OPEN strings (on the left) is vital in the sense that we're fretting open strings all the time. so, only if you have a very low action at the FIRST fret you achieve a real "smoothie" feeling on the neck. if the string height at the nut is too big (99,99% of the cases) this can false the action measurement on the 12th: it appears to have a good action (theoretically it's ok) but lacks that "butter" feeling... a brass "zero" fret, being the natural extension of the other ones, gives the right nut action automatically. |
