I would like your opinion on this GB10, apperently from 1980. http://www.qksrv.net/click-1802666-10381315?loc=http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7371050452 I have 2 GB10s, from 1983 and 1984, they both have an ebony fretboard, the well known block inlays, 22 frets and GB's name on the 20th fret. I know there are GB10s which have a rosewood fretboard but with trapezoid inlays and 23 frets? Could it be retrofitted with another (LP?) fretboard? Note the gap in the pickguard above the neck pickup. It also doesn't have the usual brass/ivory nut. Any opinions on this one? |

Fingerboard replacement at least. Too bad your photo doesn't show the rest of the guitar (the link did not work for me here at work). If you are in the market for ANOTHER GB I would stick with those that are stock. Buying something so obiviously non-stock would make it hard to sell later... |

Either that's a one-off GB10...or it's had a complete change-over from ebony to rosewood fretboard; and replaced the pearl/abalone inlays with LP trapazoids. Even the George Benson pearl signature inlay at the twelfth fret is missing. Otherwise, it's a very well preserved model. Maybe one of our German speaking members can contact the seller and get the scoop. |

I already contacted the seller who said he doesn't know anything about any modification but will make enquiries. I will ask him to send more detailed pictures of the neck binding. |

The seller bought that guitar himself about a month ago on German Ebay. Maybe he found out what he got and wants to get rid of it... Here's a link to the auction: http://www.qksrv.net/click-1802666-10381315?loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI .dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D7359293728 Juergen |

Yogi: Interesting that the pictures in the first auction don't show the fretboard inlays well enough to tell whether they are traps or MOP/AB blocks. I would be ticked if this was a known modification that was hidden deliberately. |

Now that we know it, the inlays on the picture in the former auction can be recognized as trapezoid. I recall observing that guitar for some days, not seeing the fraud of course but didn't bid because the seller had zero feedback. I told the guy to get a good lawyer and get his money back. "All parts of the guitar are original". Poor fellow. To good to be true for that money anyway. |

fraud or not, why in the world should someone remove an original ebony fretboard and replace it with a rosewood one? maybe it cracked? anyway it seems very strange. yesterday i saw in 2dehands.nl a '79 GB10 SB for 1400 euros complete with alluminium flightcase. nice ebony fretboard! |

There are a couple of nice early edition GB10's on Ebay right now. And they appear to have original inlayed ebony necks. |
