this auction will probably won't end in the regular price range. the seller did not write the listing properly (no AM205, artist etc') enjoy it and happy holidays!!!! http://www.qksrv.net/click-1802666-10381315?loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI .dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D7374496175 |

I thought I recognized your name. Must have seen it around here. I tried to get the seller to answer some questions, however, he never responded. I tried to translate the listing, and I'm still not sure of everything he was saying. I hope it works out for you. btw...how much was shipping? mk |

asaf: Should that make me feel bad? mk: I'm in Germany, so the shipping won't be that much, but I'll see if they let me drive down there to get it personally. Basically the seller stated that it had brass hardware, was played much but in pretty good condition, that the model was a "musik man" from 1984 and that the truss rod cover fails. I'll keep you informed as soon as I get it. Sorry again. Dave |

Well, I finally got it the day before yesterday. It came in an oversized AS-case but very well packed. Here are some pictures right after unpacking. It was pretty dirty, like it had been lying around in a dusty cellar for many years, but after the obligatory cleaning, polishing and proper setup emerged a beautiful instrument. I still have to take it to my luthier because the trussrod cannot be properly adjusted (although the action is very good) and I need his opinion on the frets, which are pretty well worn, especially the first 3. Anybody willing to part with an original Artist trussrod? Note also that the (or one of the) previous owner(s) removed the serial number and put a brass plate with an Ibanez inscription in its place. Well at least it looks as though this was made at home. Or could it be original? Why would somebody do that? Anybody missing an AM205 lately? Is there any other way I can find out the year of manufacturing? The inside label doesn't contain the serial number. All in all a very good score, I'm very fond of it. Dave. |

dave, i'd bet this is a post-84 'cause of the round cutaways. prior to this year they were slightly pointier. see these photos of an'82 am205: http://www.ibanezcollectors.com/discus/messages/21/13932.html?1136529748 someone correct me if i'm wrong! |

Petruz, that is a very good observation. I compared the horns with those on my (1983) AM100 and they are more pointy as well. |

The boomerang-shaped strap buttons came in from 1983 onwards. The '83 model has the pointier horns, so 1984 is looking good from here... From the '83 catalogue: AM205 The most exquisite Stagemaster. The AM205 features the choicest materials and Ibanez famous attention to detail. A classy rendering of this exciting new design I don't think you'd argue with that, would you, Dave? Congratulations, I'm not at all envious. Oh no, not me... |

Thank you all very much for determining the year of birth of my new AM205! Bluesmeister: It is indeed a very fine instrument. After having been disappointed by very expensive F and G guitars I stuck with early 80's Ibanez Artist guitars because they are extremely well crafted, very attractive, sound great, have the perfect neck for my hands and are (still) affordable. |
