So, your IBANEZ 2355m is still in all original condition. Value $1250.- (PLUS). Why would you invest $156.- and decrease the collectors value of you guitar? (We wouldn't want that to happen, would we?) Your answer is: "For the sound", right? Bob Benedetto is of course a top jazz guitar maker. Fender put him in their catalogue, like they did the late Jimmy d'Aquisto. So, it's a big name. The name of his pickups is exclusively licensed to Seymour Duncan/ Baseline. Do you think Bob is wiring coils all day? No, of course not. You would be buying a Seymour Duncan product according to his specs and with his name on it. http://www.benedettopickups.com/products.htm So, IF you are going to do this, you should pull out the whole harness through the f-hole and unsolder the pickup lead from the potmeter. DON'T CUT ANYTHING! You must always keep the Super 70 in the case (put it in a click bag), because the value will decrease if you lose it. And then we're talking at least $350.- Add the $156.- you spent and you have a LOSS of over $500.- So, be careful, Jazzz! Yesterday I found a webshop on eBay with a $40.000.- stock of pickups and FREE SHIPPING in the USA and only $10.- internationally as I understood (and they combine shippings for lower cost). It is a bit bigger than your 2355. For me, the lager body gave me the tone I was looking for. I think we both have the same pickup, so perhaps the big difference is body material and size. I wish you had an opportunity to play my FA510 to see if it gives you what you are looking for... Then you could try Thomastik Jazz Swing .011 or .012 There's also a .013 set but that's pretty heavy for the neck. - But, if you want the sound brighter, you could try Thomastik Jazz Bebop. I always used d'Addario Chromes, because they were available. As a matter of fact, the first set was a make-up gift from Joep Egmond after a bit of screw-up deal (a guitar with a broken neck pickup that was NOT entirely silent, so it seemed to work but it didn't. Since then I MEASURE all pickups before I buy a guitar). BTW, before you buy new strings, did you measure the resistance of your pickups (with the multimeter on 20K and the volume pots on 10)? What were the results? Roughly between 7K and 9K your coils are allright (go buy the strings). If not, what does the meter say? BTW, do you have flat or round pole pieces on those pickups? Because, if you have MAXON pickups and NOT Super 70, they could have unusual resistance values. Wasn't your guitar a 1973? Then they could be Maxons... And I've seen some strange values on them... So we're talking SUPER 70's. What do you want with your sound? Less of this... more of that... I used to own a 1974 Gibson ES175 that had a weak neck pickup. I replaced it with another Gibson humbucker.... end of problem! BLUES
