Any comments on what an AF-120 is worth (in mint cond.)Also any comments on likes or dislikes of this guitar. How does the AF-120 stand up against -lets say any of the GB models,or any mid to high end hollowbodys,Ibanez or Gibson, ect, ect..

Same Korean makers and pickups as the AS120.

Comparing it to the GB models and Gibson guitars is not really fair.
That's a totally different price range.

But it's BETTER than most of the ARTCORE models. The only ones that stand a chance are the AF105 models. And even then, it's a matter of taste.

One of our members recently put pictures of the C5091000 serial number on ICW. He should be able to tell something about it.

I tried an AF- 120 out not too long ago and i was very impressed w/ the tone. The acoustics of the hollowbody in combo. w/ the super 58s- all i can say is awesome, and im not a big jazz box fan either!I really dont see how a Gibson, or any other brand for that matter could be any better (tone wise). Also the neck was smooth frets a good hight.I really like this guitar.I have a chance to buy it locally around 499.00 w/ case.Im just not sure about the price?

That's 50% of the 1997 list price.
http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/price/1997/2_A ug/p02.jpg
That's a good deal. And you don't have to go looking for a case!
The price won't go down, if you buy it.
Value 1/2-2/3 of the list price would make $499.50-665 without the case.
Add $90.- for the second hand case, makes a total value of $590.50-755
If you keep it in (near) MINT condition of course, there's nothing to lose...

Fingers: I've had my AF-120 since 2000. I find it to be a great jazz box. The size, for me is very comfortable to play. The construction of the guitar is excellent and I love the feel of the neck. The pick ups sound great. Most of the time I play mine acoustically and even that sound I enjoy. Putting Thomastik flatwound jazz strings also was a big plus on the sound and the feel of the guitar. I paid $499.00 without the case in 2000.

Fingers: I use Thomastik-Jazz Swing .013 - .053
I love Thomastik strings. They feel broke in as soon as you put them on, but not dull sounding and no string squeek. I use them on both my hollow bodies, the AF-120 and an Epiphone Emperor. Paul

Well it seems like a lot- untill you compare it to some of the other Ibanez jazz boxes out there. To tell you the truth i wouldnt pay 900.00 thats for sure. But i would pay 500.00.Moreover just the super58s on this puppy in conjucture w/ the hollow body acoustics is worth it- WOW!.Ive had a couple of semi hollow bodies in the past but, the sound wasnt as full as the AF-120 hollowbody.Id love to compare a Japanese full hollowbody (sound) to the Korean AF -120(prob. not much difference)but craftmanship of a Japanese made guitar would be somewhat better.Just from my own personal experience- Korean craftmanship is somewhat sloppy.

Fingers & Jazz; I see AF-120 on E-bay regularly and they go from $300.00 to $500.00, never higher than that. Mostly at $400.00 with a case. I tend to watch them because I have one and want to see what they are worth. As far as quality goes, I think the Korean guitars are very nicely built. The only sloppy area is where the fingerboard extends over the guitar body. They didn't really finish that portion of the body. Also, the tuners while looking great tend to slip a bit. The sound of the Super 58's are great. It's comfortable to hold and play and the neck fits my hand. In my opinion a very underated guitar. Paul

Hi , I'm the guy with the AF120 C509100
It's a very nice solidly built guitar with a good comfortable fingerboard and neck but it was a bit bright for me and I was thinking about PUs
tone pot caps etc etc
After good advice here I just now changed the strings to TI Jazz 13-53 (I was on D'addario rounds lite top heavy bottom 10-52 like I use on my 335 seemed reasonable) and it has totally changed the sound .... no really , its now warm and sonorous, I'm well pleased
especially for 300 GBP !
I would recommend a AF120 but I think it was really made for fattish roundwounds
It sounds like a real Jazz guitar now
Cheers
PS I'll keep to the D'addarios for my 335 , I now realise that maybe the strings go with the
guitar not the player.I live and learn all the time

The correct strings can make all the difference! This point on having the right strings is highly over looked i believe?
