Seems like Ibanez has added a new GB to the mix. http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=GB15 Would be interested to hear anyone's comments should they come across one at NAMM or a local shop. I wonder how much it will retail for? |

Interestingly, it has one floating p/u at the neck and no bridge p/u. It is pictured with a p/u switch - maybe that is an early prototype used for the catalog photo shoot. Only available in red. Weird in my opinion. Would have been cool if they offered it in a natural/blonde finish. |

I suspect it is the coil tapping switch. Ace |

Yes, I think you are right. After reading more carefully, I see one of the features will be a coil tap. I guess they are using a toggle switch instead of a push/pull pot. I wonder market or user type they are going after with this guitar? |

Any ideas as to pricing? Is it a MIJ model? I would bet it's priced below new GB10's (which have really gotten expensive!), to increase sales to those wanting the most popular 'GB' features. To me that's good business...but RED only?! |

The guitar is a product of Team J, otherwise known as the Japanese factory. The switch is a volume boost. The color is red and the hardware is an anodized black. This is not your traditional GB. But it sounds very good. I played it and then listened to several players (much better jazz players than myself) test it out for a while. I'll check on the list price, tomorrow. |

"What is "Coil Tap Switch" ????" - Loopinglife A coil tap is a switch (usually a push/pull switch integrated into one of the tone pots) that transforms a dual coil humbucker into a single coil pickup. |

I see the catalog does state that this is definitely a coil tap switch. It "allows access to single-coil tones". Harold Wherry said it was a "volume boost". I guess that's the overall effect of any coil tap. I really didn't notice that the tone got very thin or brittle sounding, tho. But a crowded, noisy convention hall isn't the best place to audition a new instrument. |

Help me understand why the GB15TR model is priced the same as a GB10...including gigbag! Here's the Ibanez Rules NAMM description: GB15TR - Ibanez introduces the new GB15. 3 piece GB Prestige set neck, Spruce top with maple back and sides, small bodied with a 14 3/4" maximum body width, maximum body thickness is 3 1/3", medium frets, ebony bridge, IBZ GB special pickup with coil tapping. Available in TR [Transparent Red]. $3333.32 List price includes case and gig bag.

I think ultimately the market will force the GB15's to be sold at a steeper discount, thus a lower street price. Ace |

"I think ultimately the market will force the GB15's to be sold at a steeper discount, thus a lower street price." - Acetan And hopefully an alternative color choice as well. I vote an option in a natural finish. |
