Hi there: My 2630 Artist; never got around to photographing it until now.... It needs some coil tap switch work (cuts in/out). Also has some funk on the pickups from the old pickguard. Should I address this, or with the pickguard removed, has the funk finished? Thanks! |

The second batch indeed works, and she's a beaut! Have you had this thing for long? |

Second batch - I tried to figure our a way to edit my first post and replace links, but to no avail. No, I just picked it up. I haven't even had a chance to go through intonating it. The neck pickup also vibrates sympathetically at certain fundamental frequencies, so it needs a slight servicing.... |

Unfortunately, the metal fatigue you see on the tailpiece is fairly commonplace. It's not a big deal, just cosmetic. The bigger problem is when the bridge fatigues. In that case, it flattens out and looses the radius needed to match the fretboard. I've seen and heard of the thinner bridges (ST and Gibraltar II) having this problem, not so common with these heavy and wider, Gibraltar I bridges. |

Very nice, Rev. Always nice to see more 2630 love here. Speaking of the bridge issues, here's a shot of a mod (reversable) to my '78 2630 that worked out much better than I thought it would.

guitartim, nice mod. is there any artist model with this combination (gibraltar/cloud)? maybe the recent artists. once i had an AM205 with a collapsed bridge (gibraltar II). with the advice of johns i was able to repair (bend it upwards) quickly at home. |

Rev~ The original 2630 Gibralter I bridge was replaced with a new Gibralter II bridge. This setup is also used on the AR3000 reissue and works wonderfully on both guitars. Someone asked about other guitars with the cloud tailpiece/Gilbralter II bridge. (sorry, my pics didn't load, so here's the '04 NAMM lowdown to show the bridge/pup setup) http://namm.harmony-central.com/WNAMM04/Content/Ib anez/PR/AR200-AR300-AR3000.html Also, the Super 80 pups were switched out to Super 58's. |

Cdarwincole~ That's an Ibanez Gibralter II. I had that installed back in 2000 by luthier, John Jordan, back when he did repairs and mods. Now he only builds his own custom stuff. Man, he really did a great job setting up my 2630! http://www.jordanmusic.com/ |

Just an update. I haven't Brite Boyed the pickups yet, but I've been playing it a lot and enjoying it quite a bit. I worked out a guitar arrangement of "Three Views of a Secret" by Jaco on this thing, plus laid down a bunch of ideas on my loop station so I can develop the ideas into fuller ones when I set to record 'em. Loaded it up with 11s (from 10s) and it doesn't seem to need any corrective set-up, but the tri-sound switch is bothersome (cuts in and out). Regards, |
