hi , that crack or what ever is too close to the neck pocket to not worry about, i think the repairs if any, would cost more than the guitar would be worth, just my two cents, jazzzz |

The heel area blemish appears to be surface lacquer checking, very common on Ibanez guitars with the poly finish. I would be a little more concerned with the checking near the nut, but even that does not appear too serious. Caveat: Photos can be very deceiving. One can never be certain of cracks, cheking, separation, expansion, twisting or other wood/lacquer issues. You must see it in person and closely examine it. Get the guitar in your hands and feel the imperfection. If interested in that piece, ask the seller for a 48 hour return guarantee if not satisfied. |

Somebody told me it is usual that the lacquer/finish gets broken at the neckjoint of hollowbodies. Is it true? How can you test if it is a harmless finish issue or a serious problem? Juha |

That is a finish stress crack in my opinion. The nut doesn't look original. |

Hey guys - I judged the crack to be finish only, caused by the guitar falling face down and breaking the nut. I any case, I bought it and it arrived today. It is like new. The stress crack is extremely minor and is present on one side of the neck only. The instrument plays beautifully and has an excellent action. Whoever redid the nut did a great job. I am so happy with the instrument! I got a 400 - 500 dollar guitar for 150.00! It has Super 58's too. |

Excellent deal. Now you have a semi-hollow you don't have to worry about for outdoor gigs without compromising too much on the sound. Because of the pickups this guitar will certainly sound better than an ordinary Artcore AS (not being 103 custom). Ginger |

carlo, i had an as100 in the 80's that had a finish crak near the nut exactly the same as this. nothing serious i think. in my opinion it has something to do with the amazingly thin neck these models had (as can be seen in the detail of the cracked area). i bet it's under 20mm thick and maybe the normal stress of the truss rod makes the finish crack near the nut. if it's not a problem for you, could you measure the neck's depth just behind the first fret? just curiosity. |

Hello all, this is an Artstar AS-80, not an Artcore. It was made in 2000. Haven't measured the neck yet, sorry! |
