I picked up a MIJ Ibanez AS180 off eBay last week. The tag says AAS180 not AS180. I can't find much reference to it anywhere here or on the web, so I'm wondering if it is something other than a stock AS180? Anyone know about the AAS designation? |

Do you have any pictures? The only similar thing I have ever heard of is an AAF3000 that was for sale in Japan.

Yes, here are some photos. The ad said no play or fret wear. I've included a couple of photos of the fret wear I found. Please let me know if you think it's worth complaining about. /image{label} /image{full} /image{front} /image{back} /image{} /image{} /image{} /image{} |

That ding in the fret is pretty bad and it definitley has some fret wear...how does it play? I bet the string gets stuck in that dent when bending... It certainly looks like an AS180...I bet its just a type on the label... |

It is a very nice player...until you hit the crevasse. A little buzzing there. Otherwise she's a beaut. My luthier said there is enough fret left for a re-dress which should solve the fret problem. I'll want to re-do the splices. Overall it's in pretty good shape. A little buckle rash on the back, but not even through the clear coat. Some strange scratches on the fretboard that look like someone with gnarly fingernails did a lot of bending. Fortunately its hard to see without really looking for it. A tech at Fushino (distributor for Ibanez) is looking at it trying to figure out the label stamp. Haven't heard back yet. |

Maybe it'll become the one and only "AS180 Typo edition" Like old stamps with print errors that goes for thousands of bucks... Sell it for $9999!! |

I just got the call from Ibanez on the AAS. It is a mis-stamp and it's just a plain old vanilla AS180. The more I play it, the more I like it. I get a chance to use it with the band tonight and turn it up. I took it to my luthier (who does all of Robert Cray's work) yesterday for a fret redress and it should be done today at lunch. |

Hi, I'm new on the forum (but have been looking around here before). I own an AS180, bought it new in '98 or '99. And it also has "AAS180" on the label inside. |

Interesting...some guy must have gone crazy with the stamper, however mine was built in 1996. I don't suppose he went off for 2 or 3 years! Is there anything different about your 180 that you know of? |

My AS looks exactly like yours. And if I interpret the serial nr right (F61...) it was built in jan '96, although the loose tag that came with the guitar (& i kept) says it received final inspection in oct '98. So it may have been hanging in Fugi for years until someone (me) ordered one to be shipped to Belgium. Anyway, it's a great guitar, my favourite, and worth every Belgian Frank i payed for it then. |
