IM DIGGIN MY 2355 AGAIN !!

Author Message   Jazzzbo Username: Jazzzbo Registered: 9-2005 Posted on Monday, April 23, 2007 - 8:31 pm:    OK, so i got my 2355 out of storage and man that axe is sounding great out of a Peavey classic 30, i love the pups now, there is an issue with a grounding type sound, you know , touch the stringgs and the hum goes away, the other thing is, should i get something like an Epiphone Regent for gigs and keep the 2355 in a safer environment?? jazzzz   Gemberbier Username: Gemberbier Registered: 5-2006 Posted on Monday, April 23, 2007 - 9:00 pm:    Jazzz, There a ground electrode that goes straight to the guitars end pin screw. Make sure it is connected, so that it grounds your tailpiece and strings. Then your hum will probably be gone. About what Regent are you thinking? A Zephyr Regent, or an Emperor Regent? If you go for a Zephyr Regent, make sure you buy one with a black pickguard. The white ones are ugly IMO. I have a DOT version, but the ones in the catalogue are with parallellograms. It's actually an ES-165 (Herb Ellis model), so neck pickup only. Whether you should do that or play your 2355, depends on the kind of gigs that you play and if you have a good case for it. I was looking for a more acoustic sound since I don't play with an amp very much (just play at home). The Emperor has a beautiful acoustic tone and is louder than my 2355.I think it's because of the the larger body size and the fact that there is nothing cut into the the top. Very comfortable neck shape and feel.Also, they have come down in price. I meant the first. But, there's a but... The Dutch ex-soldering champion Jan van Beveren (not the soccer goalie) who is actually a retired tube amp repairman, told me that this grounding is now forbidden. If your equipment and all grounding is OK, there's no problem, but... and there's the but... if it isn't this ground lead CAN theoretically cause electrocution of the guitarist, then the ex-guitarist. Manufacturers of electric don't ground guitars this way anymore in Europe. And the lead is often cut. However, if you play through a properly grounded socket with a properly grounded amp, there is no danger. It's just when you gig outside where you don't know the quality of the electricity, it is wise to play a modern guitar with no potentially dangerous grounding. As I remember it, the Epi Emperor Regent was always quite expensive compared to the Aria FA71. But $499.- sounds like a bargain. Perhaps you should try both. And there is a nice flamed Artcore model with a floating pickup. So try all three. If you like the smaller ES-175 body, the Zephyr Regent is a realy nice jazz guitar (1 fixed humbucker). Measering the if there is any voltage on your hardware and strings when it's plugged in is a possibility. Start high and then scale down, if you measure nothing. My dad had a retired RCAF bomb aimer from the Second World War as a guest, who was a professional electrician. And I had the problem that my lights went out every time I put the microwave on, when it was in the grounded socket that had just got a new earth leaking circuit breaker. So, Mike (meanwhile he's late Mike) came to my place to check it out. "Do you have a voltmeter?". I took the $3.- supermarket multimeter and the veteran measured a peak of 380 Volts on some screws on the outside of my microwave. One deadly microwave... So, measuring never hurts, as long as your skin doesn't touch any metal, that is... Ginger
