1978 AS-100

My first question is what pickups came in this model? Mine seem to be gold plated. Next question, what should my original knobs look like? My are black, are these after markets? I just got this girl and would like to try and keep it all original. I am also looking for a pick guard for this baby. Someone took it off and never put it back on, a shame for me. I really like this guitar, it has awesome sound. I woiuld think this is worth a little bit of value since it plays and sounds so nice. What do these run for these days? Your pickups should have been chrome Super 80s with embossed Flying Fingers logo on the covers. But they have been changed to who knows what (Super 70s, Super 58s?). You'd have to take them out to see if there are any markings on the back that would help identify them. You're right, the control knobs have also been changed. To start restoring you will need a pair of Super 80 (butterfly logo/flying finger) pickups, A set of sure grip gold or at a push black knobs. The scratch plate will be hard to find but I'm sure a member here with the same guitar or an SA400 will let you have a template. I have a 2629 but I'm not sure if the plate template would be the same. I have one intact chrome Super 80 too. I don't want the earth for it and I'll throw in another one that needs rewaxing with it. They do come up on ebay once in a while, but they are very expensive. Also, the competition can be intense because there are lots of people looking for them for their restoration projects. As Six, says, an original pickguard will be very difficult to find. If you had a template, you could have a pickguard made. They appear to be a laminated b/w/b/w/b plastic, rather than the tortoise shell with b/w binding found on the SA400. Nobody has addressed the value of this guitar, so I'll take a stab at it. Even after assembling all the restoration parts, I'm going to say the value would be between $500.00 and 650.00. Others who actually have one or have sold one recently, may disagree.
