AFS 75 - toggleswitch position

Has anybody experience with GFS Retrotrons? They get rave reviews - I wonder if they really do the twang thing. Benito1300 Username: Benito1300 Registered: 09-2005 Posted on Saturday, April 15, 2006 - 11:27 am:    aaahh, that makes a little more sense... you kinda left me, and probably a few others hangin' with your first post, telstar. that's more of a gretsch layout, right? interesting... i put gfs retrotron liverpool pickups in my AS73 about a month and a half ago for a similar reason. i just wanted more high end at the low volumes i'm often forced to play at. although i'm speaking from the point of view of a semi-hollow, i would definitely recommend them for twangalicious tones. a couple people have actually put retrotrons into similar AF style artcores and have shared their experience on this forum. do a search for 'gfs retrotron' or something of the like and you should be able to get a few ideas and maybe ask the AF owners how they like their 'trons. -ben Telstar Username: Telstar Registered: 04-2006 Posted on Saturday, April 15, 2006 - 2:36 pm:    Thanks, Ben, I'm a bit wiser now. I'll probably go for the ceramic Nashvilles. That sound block idea sounds cool too! The reason for the toggle switch repositioning is, that it is hard to reach sitting under the tremolo bar, and the reason for the master volume control is, that I like to clean up from the volume control for a less distorted and cleaner tone and turning the two volume knobs as they are now is silly. I'll take some pictures when I'm at work and keep you posted about the progress. Benito1300 Username: Benito1300 Registered: 09-2005 Posted on Sunday, April 16, 2006 - 1:38 am:    looking at pictures of the stock layout, i can definitely see where you're coming from. not only does it seem awfully close to the bar on the bigsby, it's pretty tight with the bridge as well. not a whole lot of 'on the fly' switching convenience there. i could see myself bumping the switch with my strumming if it was repositioned to the upper bout as you're thinking, but that's just me, and it's not my guitar that's the subject, so i'll shut up. pictures would be very cool, and i look forward to hearing what you think of the nashvilles if that's what you end up goin' with. as i said, i couldn't be happier with the stuff i've picked up from gfs. I've got a AFS78TNBK, which is the same layout and I too find it to difficult to switch pups, and would also like a master volume. I've been pondering on various options, and yours looks pretty good. Finally I can really use it for switching sound and (pre-set-)volume. I also removed the little trembar-stop that hindered the arm from moving all the way over the strings. Now I can play the lower strings and wiggle the bar at the same time... Next, I'll surely need to do the master volume mod, but I'll wait for the pickups and do the whole thing in one go.
