Are there any 7 stringers out there? If so, what are your thoughts on the Ibanez AF107? http://www.gbase.com/Powered/GearDetails.aspx?Dealer=23977a0b-6862-43e3-b8ff-9de cb2a97f79&Item=870544 |

I always had a curiosity to hear this guitar. I have an impression that it'll be similar to the JP20 in playability. I don't see them offered a lot. The only time was in Italy for less than 1500 euros (if I remember it right)... f. |

Not a bad price either. Wish I could afford it. I did own an AF207 for a brief time. Bought it off of e-Bay from someone who lived just up the road from me. When I received it, the heel cap had a gap between it and the heel. It was superficial but I thought it would affect my ability to sell it in the future. The guy was kind enough to give me my money back. Wish I would have kept it. The stock Dimarzio Blaze Humbucker is a remarkably nice sounding pickup on this guitar. My recollection is, the AF207 I owned had a wooden pickup ring, like the AG195. As I recall the only obvious mod necessary on these guitars is to enlarge (drill out) the string hole in the 7th string tuner post. The hole is pretty tight and cannot accept the .080 gauge string that 7 string archtop players typically use. The AF207 sounded beautiful through my Polytone MBII. I later bought an AF120 thinking it would sound similarly as nice. Wow, was I mistaken. That AF207 was worlds apart from the other AF guitars based on my experience with the AF120. Did I mention I wish I would have kept it? Anyways, sorry to ramble. |

I know there is a huge difference between the AF120 and the AF200. The AF200 has a much nicer/richer sound. I had both side by side. |

here's another AF 207. http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7408428550&sspagename=ADME%3AB %3AAAQ%3ACH%3A1&rd=1#ebayphotohosting for the ones who don't understand german: the owner replaced the bridge with a brass one and widened the stringspacing on it(complaining it was too narrow on the original) he thinks the low 7th string should be tuned to A, not B as intended by ibanez. the missing tone pot is still available - i can't imagine why he took it away. jazznote |

Besides the 2-piece metal ones on the various GBs and the wood ones on the JP20 and GB models, this is one of the best looking tailpieces that Ibanez has offered on a jazzbox, IMO. If it came in a 6-string version, I would have bought one for my AF200, which has one of the ugliest tailpieces, ever. (Sorry Ibanez, gotta be honest!) |

Which tailpiece came on the AF200? Does it look like the AF120? I think the JP20 and GB200 tailpieces are pretty nice. I tried to order a GB200 tailpiece once. Holy cow, was it expensive. |

According to Legato's website, the AF207 has a 24-3/4" scale. |

Wildfield: The AF200 has consistenly had the same tailpiece. But the AF120 has changed a lot. For example, in '97 they were pretty close, but not exactly the same. In '96 they were totally different. The Pat Metheny models have had the same basic metal one that is closely related to the AFs. But I think that's not very pretty either. |

Jazznote, Do you mean that things have strayed from the original topic? If so, my apologies. I'm guilty of discussing tangents. No malice intended. Darryl |

i am VERY SORRY. yes of course, nothing has been removed. it seems that i'm getting too confused (& neurotic) hanging out in different boards late night. here's what happened: there is another board with a topic "Tuning of 7 string guitars". i confused the postings frome here and there - you can imagine the rest. again I DO APOLOGIZE for my suspicious attitude, and hope it didn't bother anybody too much. sincerely, Jazznote P.S. Wildfield, don't worry, i think there HAS to be room for discussing tangents, as in every normal discussion |
