This looked sweet and I wanted to pass it along. I e-mailed him, and he said he would ship to USA for 100 pounds, ( $188.00 usd )

Here's the ICW-friendly version of the ebay URL:

Distinguishing features: Solid brass nut (non-stock?) and no flame maple in sight. Gib I bridge, not ST. Sorry, can't help on whether these were peculiar to the UK market at the time. It's got personality, though.

The solid brass nut is not something I've seen on an AS200 before.

The Gibraltar I bridge was never used on the AS200. They went from STs to Gibraltar IIs. The Gibraltar II bridge is shown on the AS200 in the '83-'84 Semi and Full Acoustic catalog.

The guitar on ebay has a Gibraltar II as John says. The nut looks like it is an add on which I can't understand why someone would change the half bone/brass nut. It does look like a nice guitar though!

Re changing the nut.

I can understand it. They are stiff and tight for bending at that end of the fretboard and sound dead compared to bone. But, because they are so damn wide it's hard to replace them with a nice narrow bone nut so it can look a mess. Much like this one does with a even more nasty looking brass railway sleeper stuffed in there.

No way was that guitar worth 800 quid.

My opinion of course

Six, quite right, but NOS brass 'n bone can easily be had, if eyes kept peeled, on ebay. They come in two bits and I can think of no better way of spending the best part of a day than with a bottle of superglue, fret files, different grades of wet and dry and your nerves. Chipping the lacquer off the sides of an original nut is heart-stopping enough. Them comes tapping at the nut until it breaks off. I don't believe a setup is ever as personal as when you work from the nut up, but be prepared to sweat blood.

Is it worth £800+ ? Yes, the market in the UK and continental Europe can stand it and there's a big differential against the USA price because of the strong Euro and Sterling against the USD. I was just discussing this with a Dutch dealer only yesterday.

Back to that guitar. Agreed, the GibII is the right one for that individual guitar, but the top saddle seems to have little or no further forward adjustment available. What do you do when you run out of room, short of a visit to the steam room and the kiln?
