Can anyone advise me on any of the following
Ive been offered a jp20 for £1200 It is 1981 in excellent condition except a loose machine nu (it moves in and out when the instrument is unstrung) and no case
Is the price too high?
Are new machine heads for this model available/
Can you buy a case for this model?

Ive never played one of these as I,m new to this
Not sure whether i should rather be looking out for one of the others

Any comments/advice would be much appreciated
Thanks
Wilson

Hi Wilson, if you do a little search here you'll find a lot that has been said about the JP20.

In general people think the pickup could have been placed a bit closer to the neck, but it is still a very good instrument. I think the neck is really good and the sound very beautiful. I don't know about the market in the UK, but I find it kind of high. In Holland I see them going between 1200 to 1500 EUROS with original case and no problems.

About the case, it's possible to order a case for it. I guess it would be the same as the one for the PM100 or GB200... Please, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Wilson,

Unless you have either have played a JP20 or heard someone you know play the JP20 I would advise that you not buy the guitar.

In my opinion the JP20 is a great instrument with the best feeling and best sized neck of all Ibanez archtop guitars.

Yea, I too wish that the pickup was placed nearer to the end of the fingerboard but Ibanez copied the specs from the original D'Aquisto that Joe Pass owned.

Also the £1200 is not a bad price for a JP20,,, if it only had the case.

I too would suggest you do a search on JP20 and Joe Pass and read some of the members earlier comments on the Ibanez JP20.

900 euros are a mere 600 pounds if i'm wright!!!
usually ebay italy does not have many offerings, but once in a while there are incredible deals. last week an AS200 was sold for a mere 600 euros.

Aside from the pickup position on the JP20, they are really great instruments. In fact, the pickup is placed so far back from the neck, that all one need do is disconnect it and mount a Johnny Smith type onto the end of the neck.
