hello,

this is my first post here. very nice site!

so there is this store a few miles down the street that has an '83 mij AM-50 for sale on consignment. they are asking $799. here is the link to it on gbase:

http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDetails.aspx?Item=1512446

there are a few small finsih cracks near the neck joint, and while i was playing it, i did notice some volume drop outs when adjusting one of the volume knobs. a slight short in the wires, i guess.

now, i loved the feel of this guitar and the way it played, the tone, the weight. everything. but $800 seems a little pricey to me.

am i being a cheap skate, or is this guitar worth it? anyone have any ideas? thanks.

Yes it is, absolutely.
With OHSC and in excellent condition, we'd pay €700-€1000 in Europe.
Nothing wrong with that price.

There was an AM50 that just sold on e-Bay for $600 plus $50 for shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/Ibanez-AM-50-AM50-Semi-Holllow-Electric_W0QQitemZ7418648669Q QcategoryZ2384QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

To me, if it plays nicely, is in good shape and worth the $799 to you, who's to say you're getting a bad deal? If you saved $150 or $200 on an e-Bay auction but the guitar arrives damaged or in poor shape or with some kind of problem, how much did you really end up saving?

Guess it boils down to if you think that guitar is worth $800 to you. At the end of the day, I don't think $800 is going to be dramatically higher than what some AM50's sometimes sell for on e-Bay.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

thanks for the replies. you both make great points. i need to sell some gear to pay for this amp i just bought, but after that i think i will throw this guitar on the old credit card if it's still there.
