I'm just wondering how the AF 105 NT guitars develop. How do they play and feel after having been used for one or two years. I'm particularly interested in the AF 105 F NT |

Jazznote, As you can see AF105(F) is not a hot topic here. Perhaps it is too young model to be of interest among collectors. And it is not MIJ (or MIK), it has ceramic pickups etc ... Juha |

Would you expect much of a change from an instrument with laminated plates? Just curious. I'm inclined to think that a laminate guitar would not "open up" like one made of solid woods. By the way, I owned an AF105F for a short period and thought it sounded and played wonderfully out of the box. |

Wildfield, why did you give it away? I wouldn't know what to expect from a instrument "made in china" in this price segment. I'm mainly a little suspicious about durability. Today i played two AF 105F's directly out of the box at the importers shop. They do sound nice! I'm not too sure though if they could really withstand the tension of a 0.13 thomastik flat wound set as the neck appears somewhat small. Interesting is that both were hauling at the same G (on the 5th string) though i kept the volume low. |

Jazznote, I sold the AF105F because I just recently received a custom guitar which I had ordered a couple years ago. I’m not one to hang onto a lot of guitars at one time. I had my AF105F strung with .013 through .053 TI flatwounds. Personally, I would not worry in the least about the AF105F’s neck. It seems sturdy and it has a trussrod. Furthermore, the laminated plates and poly finish make the guitar very durable in general and less affected by things such as temperature and humidity. I think this is a very gig worthy axe that would last a long, long time. I also personally think the neck has the best feel of practically any archtop I have ever played. My only (very minor) gripe was the color but to each his own. If I had not purchased a new guitar, I would have kept the AF105F but I probably would have replaced the pickup with something that has adjustable poles. As for the howling G on the 5th string, personally I have found most archtops have notes that create wolftones – hot spots and dead spots – especially on those with maple necks. Obviously, some guitars are better than others when it comes to wolftones but I can usually find them on most guitars if I play it long enough. I find a good notch filter helps with this as well as limiting feedback in general. Just my 2 cents. Darryl |
