The Johnny Smith is really big and deep. So you get a lot of feedback if you're close to the amp and if you have short arms it's not ideal too.
The George Benson is smaller and shallow. So you have more playing comfort and less feedback.
The pickups of the two are both floating mini humbuckers, (the GB10 has Benson Special mini humbuckers) but they might be on different positions. The GB10 has a 25.5" scale and some say their Johnny Smith a 24.75" scale (was the bridge position right?). (Didn't measure neither of them). If that's true, you'll have different string tensions and different tone.

The best thing you could do is try them yourself through the same amp in the same room.

My GB100 had a 24-3/4" scale. I believe the other GB's are also the same.

thanks for the info, hopefully i can play both, but my gut is telling me the gb would prolly be a better all around axe for me, but then, theres something about that johnny smith, sorry no pics at this time, no one has come forward with any interesting trades or any serious, realistic offers, so its still in storage, but , i see a 1977 2355 on the bay rite now, seems less of them are showing up, cheers-- jazzz

Hi wildfield,
You had a GB100... that's a pitty. I like this sentence better in the present tense...
The GB100 has indeed a 24.75" scale. It is a different, bigger and deeper guitar, but if these GB10 specs are right, it's 25.5"

Jazzzbo,
The GB10 is definitely more allround.
The 2461 JS is for jazz specialists.

But I understand the problem. They're both gorgeous and no cheapos.

Don't sell your 2355 without reserve. Last 2461NT went way too cheap! Don't let this happen to you!

A good guitar deserves a good price! At least €900.= / $1140.=
The $875.= (€689.=) you're asking is way to cheap for a 1973/'74. I you talk about lawsuit model... this is a lawsuit model!
A mint 2355 sunburst is estimated € 1450.= ($1840.=) by Argus. That's pretty high (it's an insurance price).

Good luck.

Not to stray too far off topic but, the GB100 is the same width as a GB10 at the lower bout. The body is a 1/2 inch deeper than the GB10. Here is a link to a site that has more information on the GB models: http://www.noahjames.com/vintagepage/GBSERIES.HTML

hey, thanks for the info and the link, im wondering , do the stock mini humbuckers sound good on the GB models , or do most people swap em out, and if so, what are the happening replacements, also, what are some good strings, 10s. 11s.

I think they sound great - full, bright, clear and with good punch. Personally, I'd stick with the stock pickup but to each his own. I had my GB100 setup with .012 to .053.

Jazzbo:

The stock mini pups are great. Just ask George Benson. :-) But, like the equally great Super 58s that are outfitted on many of the Ibanez guitars, some people think they can be improved. It's really personal taste.

Give the stock pups a chance. If you eventually decide you want something else, remember to save the original pups and also make sure that you don't use any replacement pups that require extra screw holes or other irreversble mods.

Jazz, If and when you sell your 2355, good pics will be needed for someone to mke an offer.

I would have been very interested in it had you taken the time to pull it out of storage. I do think you are making the right decision by possibly keeping it.

Good luck...
