hi all, I bought an 81 LR10 a few weeks ago, it's in quite good condition and sounds amazing. HOWEVER, today I changed the strings for the first time, and 2 of the tuning pegs fell out of the tuners (as in the bit you grip and turn came out of the part screwed to the headstock). When the string is on and at tension, there isn't a problem (although I'm not super confident in the tuning stability of these two strings) but when the string is off, the 'peg' is loose and can pretty much just be pulled out. So, I've got some questions, if anyone can help... Does this mean the tuners are irreparably broken? is this common with velve tune II tuners? (it's never happened on any other guitar i've ever owned) if they can't be salvaged, does anybody know what other readily available tuners will fit without having to drill (velve tunes have one screw which seems identical in placement to the Smooth tuner style Ibanez tuners.) i'm quite bummed! thanks in advance for your suggestions, Charlie |

Original LR10 tuners are the 'weakest link' of that otherwise fine instrument. You might look into some Grovers to fit in place of all of the originals. My LR10 has them and they look great, work fine and cover the original holes. They came with the guitar, replaced by the previous owner. |

Charlie, A couple of tuners on my LR10 fell out when I replaced the strings. I replaced the tuners with Grovers and I'm very happy. Save the old tuners! BLUES |

The same thing happened to me fifteen years ago after my AM50 fell on the floor. But it's still working by now, with a good tuning stability. Change them if you think there's a problem, or just keep them anyway if it's working fine. |
