Cheers all. I've just joined but have been looking through the threads for a bit which has given me much infomation. nice one. I've just found myself an 83 AS-50. I will post pics later. I thought as i had gleened quite a bit of info from the site i would do my bit. Has anyone noticed on Ebay there is an AM205, its not all original.

However the same seller has all the electrics on a seperate sale in what he says is "working when removed from guitar" condition, pretty interesting if your looking for parts, shame if the am205 he's selling was the donor though. still for an enthusiast theres a whole one in there somewhere!

It's obvious, same seller and the guitar has got Grovers (not mentioned in the ad) instead of Velve tuners.

BIN $1800.= to get it all original. Reserve will be about the same.
That would make it the most expensive AM205 sold in years!

This is a gold digger. Actually he wants $600-$800 back for all the after sales parts he had installed by a professional and $1,000-$1,200 for the guitar. But it's impossible to get that amount of money for almost new parts on the second hand market. He tries to let other pay for what he regrets.
I don't think this will work.

Highest bid on the guitar $610.= reserve not met
Highest bid on the parts $176.50 reserve not met
Makes a total bid of $786.50
Worse than any AM-205 in RusselW's database!

The luthier should have given him a better advice: keep it original.
The guitar's a player now, not a seller.

And look at the cost he made!

The best thing he can do, is to keep it and play it for the rest of his life, which isn't so bad.

Regrets, regrets...

I'm selling my AM205 SE 1985AV, i'm asking 1200 euros...of course people can make a bid ,eventually somebody will come to buy it.

The thing is , if you are looking for a certain model and you want it that bad , you will pay the price, thats what i learned over the years.

2 years ago i sold another AM205 for a price above 1000 euros, the guy even travelled from France to pick it up.He was looking for this model for along time.

This database wisdom is nice but its just an indication.....when you in that bidding game...its a nice reference.....nothing else.

I agree with Artfield's comments. Some buyers who are patient may find what they are looking for at a "low" price if they search long enough. Be that as it may, some buyers may be willing to pay more if they come across a specific model, especially if it is in decent condition, etc. In some cases, I'd be willing to pay more, if I get the guitar I really want AND if intend to play the guitar as opposed to hold it as an investment.

Having said that, it's great to have bench marks like the one Ginger has posted. Being willing to pay a premium doesn't mean ignoring indicators of what the market will bear.
