Author Message Brentm Username: Brentm Registered: 03-2005 Posted on Monday, October 02, 2006 - 10:19 am:    Thought you guys would enjoy a picture of Paul Gilbert playing an Ibanez Artist hollow body. Not sure which model this is, but it had a very flamed top. Beautiful guitar and he ripped it up. The headphones were plugged in early on, but then eventually they were on his head, unplugged. It was sooo loud, I imagine they just cut the noise a little. This is from the Cliff Cultreri show this weekend in LA. Satch, Vai, Luke, Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Dweezil Zappa, and Johnny Hiland all came out to help Cliff. I tried to get a good shot of the Artist for the ICW folks. It's a little blurry. Guitartim Username: Guitartim Registered: 04-2001 Posted on Monday, October 02, 2006 - 1:06 pm:    WOW! Looks like a very well-preserved 2630 Artist (circa 1979)with replaced pickups. Those models originally came with Super 80's with engraved 'flying fingers' logos. The one pictured has adjustable pole pieces. Definite replacements. Also notice the tri-sound switch near the volume control? It splits the 'bridge' p'up, not the neck p'up as on the AS200 model that came a bit later. I bet it sounded killer! The whole night was amazing. Gilbert sounded great through that guitar. He had a pedal stomp box he brought out marked OCD. Not sure... He refretted the guitar and rewired the switch as a coil-splitter for both p/u's (not just the neck). "It is an AWESOME guitar. You had 4 fantastic guitarists and 3 are current Ibanez endorsers with one previous (Luke). I sent PG an email quite a few months ago and invited him to the board, but never heard back from him. If you still have his ear, let him know we'd REALLY LOVE to have him stop by and hang out. Years ago I installed Super 58's in my 2630 and both have leads for a tri. However, to keep it somewhat original, I only connected the tri to the bridge p'up. It has a super funky sound when engaged, but with a significant power drop that requires signal boost (Tube Screamer to the rescue!) If both pickups were joined to the tri, wouldn't the sound be REALLY thin if both pickups were in single-coil mode? Maybe the DiMarzios have more output than 58's.(?) I bet there's some other secret to that mod...that I would love to know about. Paul, are you out there. Inquiring Ibaneezers need to know what's up with your special 2630! The rest were Peavey JSX's... and there were a ton of them! Most of the other guitarists all had "Satch'ish" tone, because of the JSX amps they were using. They have a similar timbre to the Super 58s, but they are more open, articulate and clear - better note definition in chords. The 58 may be slightly fuller in some situations, but gets muddy sometimes.
