The owner of this beautiful AM50 added a tortoise shell pickguard to it. (It was originally sold without a pickguard). He didn't drill in the side to attach it. But it looks as if he drilled two holes in the top!

He treated it well and it comes with the OHSC. Just the BIN price seems pretty high to me.
RusselW's database says:

I think he'll have to lower his reserve...
The prices he's mentioning ($1000-1500) have been payed recently for the AM205, which is more luxurious with its gold hardware and burled mahogany top and ebony fretboard (rosewood on AM50) on a mahogany neck (maple on AM50).
I don't think it's technically better. The maple neck of the AM50 is one of the straigtest and most stable necks I know.
Same pickups: Super 58, same type of hardware except the machine heads: Smooth Tuners against Velve Tuners.

I think the chrome is stronger than the plated gold. If you have agressive sweat, that's an advantage.

I don't know when RusselW's database got its last update, but I saw a AM50 go for $860.-
so the average of the database is just a low and dated estimate. They have been going up, but 1200 bucks, that's a little too much, I guess.

Ginger

PS: John, would you be so kind to make a ICW friendly link of this one? Don't know how it works.

RusselW's database? Sure like to run a couple of models against that db. What is it? A free service on the Internet, I hope?

RusselW is one of our ICW members.
He puts all Ebay results of Vintage Ibanez guitars in a database.
He put links to it on the ICW site, which you can use and bookmark.
The one that I use is the Detailed Search Form:
http://www.fordforums.com.au/guitar/searchguitar2.php

Non-vintage guitars are not in it. You should consider them as second hand guitars and make a reasonable calculation based on the list price.

I don't know when he did his last update.
The sort order functions Year, Condition and Price don't work correctly for about two months now. I guess he's got other stuff on his mind at the moment.

Next to this tool I use a list of a European Vintage Guitar "specialist" in France and Switzerland called ARGUS. Our members consider this list to be "not always accurate", sometimes too high, sometimes too low.

http://www.guitareelectrique.com/argus_iba.html

It's not the Holy Bible, but a maximum value indication tool in Euros. On the vintage models you can use both lists together. Russelw's figures show what's actually been paid, sometimes that's too much or too little. It shows the results of the auction market mechanisme.
If the indicated value in the ARGUS list is higher than the results on Ebay, it is wise to use this higher estimate for your insurance.

PS. i saw another page here i believe somewhere that listed ebay sold prices, but not in the format of fords link, does any one have this link, sometimes people dont want to deal with the bs on ebay , i also think ebay prices are sometimes alittle too wacky, ie, too high or too low, jazzz
