Is it right? Yup, that's the starting bid, I see.

It does seem high to me. But prices are going up.

I guess we'll just have to see if it sells first. :-)

It IS a MINTY one, MIJ from 1983. I've seen a '83 AM50 go for $1499.- which was pretty high. I think $850-900 would have been reasonable for that one at that time.
The 1984 list prices were:

AM50BS : $475.-
AM100MB : $515.-
AM205AV : $745.-
AM255AV : $795.-
AS80AV : $645.-
AS80CH : $645.-
AS200AV : $795.-

So the AS80CH was 35% more expensive than the AM50.
1.35 x $850.- = $1146.-
1.35 x $900.- = $1218.-

The AS200 was 67.4% more expensive than the AM50
so that's probably why people are willing to pay $1500.- for it.

I think the calculation the seller made is quite realistic, but he starts high. So he probably can't stand low balling and he's rewarding the fast bidders, which is fair IMO.

what's the difference between an AS80 and AS100? For that matter, what's the difference between an AS80, AS100, and AS200?

BTW, I own an 80 AS100. It's beside my AF510 in the picture below.

AS100

1980 AS100:
Body: Birch
Neck: Mahogany
Fretboard: EBONY
Pickups: Super 70
Bridge: ST
Machineheads: Velve Tune II

1983 AS80:
Body: laminated MAPLE
Neck: MAPLE
Fretboard: Rosewood
Pickups: Super 58
Bridge: Gibraltar II
Machineheads: Smooth Tuner

(So the description of the body wood in the ad differs from the catalogue description.)
