I am currently playing a 2003 AS80 which to me sounds great. I have an opportunity to pick up a new Gretsch Tennessee Rose w/Filtertron PUs... I would be trading one of my acoustics for it. Will I notice a difference in these two guitars. I know every guitar is different, but is the Tennessee Rose (6119) going to be worth making the switch? For some context, I lead worship and have always lead on acoustic but have started leading more on the AS80. I'm just doing rhythm/strum stuff...no lead at all. Thanks in advance for the help! |

Yes, you will definitely notice a difference. The sound of Gretsch Filtertrons is totally different from Super 58's or any normal humbucker (Gibson or imitation). They have a very recognizable character. But be careful what you trade. Don't trade a Martin, Santa Cruz, Taylor or alike against a new Chinese Gretsch. They go for €599.- here in Holland. Ginger |

Gretsch filtertrons have a more 'ringing' tone, almost like a hybrid humbucker/single coil tone. (Isn't that what they really are anyway, Tim?) Anyway, I'd recommend keeping the AS80 for a while after you get the Gretsch. If you don't, I bet you'll be a hankerin' for it down the road. Speaking of Gretsch, have you seen one of their Black Cadillac/Falcon models? Man, what a classy, GAS-inducing axe!! |
