This is just for info for anyone thinking of buying one of these - not a criticism of Ibanez in any way.

I bought a nice new AFS78T in Feb this year. It really is a nice guitar, lovely looker and player. Even brand new I noticed a slight problems with the black finish on the bigsby type tremelo, like it was a bit patchy and you could see the metal underneath in one place. I suppose I should have returned it but I really wanted to keep this guitar. Well after a few months the black on all the metal parts got worse and started to come off, basically anywhere I touched it, especially the tremelo arm, the bridge, and the tuners had just started to shoz signs of going the same way.

I know some people have this problem with guitars, like they have very corrosive sweat or something but I never had problems like this. I have had the same tele for 31 years and the bridge chrome is still shiny. Plus I'm no fanatic about it but I almost always wipe down my guitars with a clean dry cloth after playing so I don't think it's me and this guitar was not even gigged, just home and studio use.

So, I mailed the supplier (Thomann, germany) and much to their credit and to my surprise they mailed back that they would collect the guitar (I'm in France). They took it back and gave me a full refund. When I checked their website the price of this guitar has dropped by over 100 euros since I bought it in february, not so for the AFS75T which is pretty similar but has chrome hardware. I guess perhaps Ibanez are having problems like I've had with this black hardware model, or maybe they just aren't selling.

Anyway, as I said; it's a great guitar. I was sad to see it go. I sort of regretted sending it back. It's a shame about the finish on the black hardware. Once again, much credit to Thomann for excellent after sales service.

Paul
