I am talking with someone about this guitar...tobacco sunburst, very good condition, all original and case and am curious what the lads here think-also what you think it would be worth. Gentlemen start your engines ! |

Well, I have exactly the same guitar with OHSC. And a few months ago someone paid $1499.- for such a guitar. The name and driver's license number of the former owner are ingraved in the headstock. The buyer is trying to sell it now, taking a few hundreds of dollars loss. He says it can be buffed away. Well, I don't know about that... http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=1802666&mpre=ht tp%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D290057063952 If you take a constant value in Euros, the price in dollars should go up. I think €850.- is reasonable. That would be $1133.14 at the moment. Ginger |

I think you did all right. Not so good as I did, but I bought mine 7 years ago or so with good old Dutch guilders. Which one did you actually buy? Michael's or Saltapaya's with "theft protection"? Ginger |

Ibnose, Congratulations! That's great. Was the deal a good one? Perhaps you are the best person to answer that question. Does the guitar meet your expectation? Unless you purchased as an investment with the hopes of a profitable return, it shouldn't greatly matter what someone paid last year, next year or whenever. If the guitar fulfills your expectation in terms of tone, playability, fit and finish, and the price seemed reasonable, then it was a good deal. I paid $275 for a used AM70 in 1986, then sold it for $300 less than 1 year later. I stumbled across an AM70 last year about this time. It was in excellent condition. I paid $750. I do not regret spending that amount even knowing that I once had one for $275. Most importantly I love the guitar and I'm grateful to have found one in such great shape. I've seen nice AM50's and the like since purchasing my AM70. If I wanted another such guitar, I would have gladly paid what you paid (in some cases more) if the guitar met my expectation. Without a doubt, others have paid less BUT as each year trickles by, AM50's in good shape will be fewer and farther between. I'd rather pay more to have a good one than to pay less and have a crummy one. So from my humble perspective, you've done well...as long as your happy. Congratulations again! |

hi ginger actually neither this is a local purchase so at least that eliminates shipping costs , insurance etc. It seems that if you wait eventually stuff does come along ( in most cases anyhow) |

hey wildfield you're absolutely correct - as with anything its great to know that you got a good deal but the ONLY reason for the purchase is to buy a great guitar that you love to play. And for that reason what I buy I will keep - why would you sell something that gives so much satisfaction Ib |

If you played many many years, then you had at least something back. The fun of buying second hand guitars is, that you don't have to loose money on them. Also when you sell them after a short period of time. When you buy a new instrument, you must wait 20-25 years before you can sell it for the same price you paid. But the story of Saltapaya with his AM50 is really sad. He paid about $1500.- two months ago and hardly played it... and couldn't get it sold and had to go lower and lower. So where's the fun in that? I hope Ibnose is going to be happy with his guitar. Because that's where it's all about. Ginger Ginger |
