AM50: case plus the TRC says "Artist" AS50: pickguard, knobs and size (maybe an illusion) I've never seen an AM50 with that sunburst that light - only AS50's. Maybe I've never seen an '82 AM50. Mine's an '83. Other than the label, why do you think it's an AM50? My soon-to-be-ex-AM50: mk |

MK: Mostly it's the pointed, rather than rounded, horns that give away the AM50. Everything except the pickguard says this is an AM50. Here's a catalog shot of the '82 AM50BS:

MK yours has a much nicer wood tone.Sometimes camera angle/under different lighing conds. can make wood appear to change color. But yours does seems to be darker.I can see you didnt use a flash just the overhead lighting was enough to illuminate your guitar, which in my experience will make wood look darker. The AM50 in question was taken w/ a flash thats enough to change the appearence of the true color.P.S. I also noticed a difference in wood pattern. What does that mean im not sure, not cut from the same chunk of wood i would have to guess? |

So, is that Pick guard original, or (presumably) a later addition? My 84 am-50 doesn't have the pick guard, nor has any am-50 I've ever seen.... |

Fingers, Did I miss something? I know there was this Bond girl Kara Milovy with a cello between her legs... But let's stick to the subject: the AM50. I think this guitar is really another finish. There were more colours available than just black sunburst. I've seen a cherry sunburst 6 years ago. It was given in consigment at Frank's shop. The price was ƒ1595,- (€720.-) but the shure grip knobs had been replaced. A few month ago there was a NOS Ibanez black AM pickguard on ebay. It was sold as pickguard for the AM50. So aftermarket but Ibanez. But it's better not to drill holes in the AM50's body, because it was originally sold without a pickguard. So the collectors value of this one has decreased. Michael, I agree that it optically looks kind of big. The support in the case is not as visible as in yours. Confusing... Ginger |
