hey folks, a question about my amp, im running my kids through a 100w HiWatt 1x12 combo. at the moment we play gigs at small venues and the amp more than handles the situation, i play with my volume on 6 and the master also on 6. we gonna tart playing bigger venues where apparently i'll need to be a bit louder. now my question is if i hook up this bad boy to a 2x12 or 4x12 cab would i be able to go louder or do i need to go through a pa? this amp obviously has the extra speaker connectors at the back, how would that work then for instance if i hooked up a 4x12, would the sound come only through the cab, or through the cab and my 1x12? any help please, no experience with this... |

Go through the PA. If your 100w HiWatt is already set on 6 and 6 like you said then you must surely be deaf by now. Use a Sure SM57 to mike up. Oh... and dish out some earplugs to the everyone including the audience. six |

I agree, for larger venues you'll need to be miked through the PA.Even in a simple club setting with a backine of full stacks it's a good idea. Running off your "Ext speaker" jacks all speakers, including the one in the combo will be working.Just remember to adjust your OHM selector to the correct setting. Using extension cabinets,4x12,2x12,ect... won't so much make you "louder" but you'll be pushing a lot mor air, forcing more of your sound out there. Personally,I don't think a 100 watt can reach it's tone potential through just one 12 inch speaker.I have a 70's 100 watt Marshall Superlead 1x12 combo that is a completly different, and much better amp when pushing multiple speakers. Out of curiosity, what speaker did HiWatt load into that combo? |

Guido, You must have a loud drummer or is he miked? Ccs has some good points. Different types of speakers make a hell of a difference. I like G12H Celestions as opposed to G12M purely because for me they handle tha bass better but you keep the highs. I find Celestion Vintage 30's too "in your face". I love Jensen 'alnico' 12's and 10's in small amps. EV 12L's are had to push at low volumes. So, dabble with different speakers. I reckon a 4x12 will sound good with your amp but you will notice the sound will be different if you are 8 feet away from the cab than 2 feet away from the cab so careful with the tone settings. HiWatt's are known for their 'harder' sound over a Marshall but when they start singing they sound terrific. Think Pete Townshend and you'll know what I mean. six |

A 100 watt amp on 6!!!!! Yikes. Can someone please re-paint the walls????? Over the last few years I have gone from 60 watts (Fender Blues Deville) to 30 watts (Tweed Super Clone) and now down to 15 (Vox AC15 TBX)and it is still too loud on stage most of the time. I bet that 100 watter is solid state. Ain't no way he could play anywhere with a 100 watt tube amp on six. His band mates must be deaf or very tolerant.... Cheers, Mark |

oooh, i'll have to check the speaker, im not certain, i think its a jensen, i'll have to double check, munch, solid state is right. its still awfully loud though. i cant really handle it. the drummer is loud, he is a bit of a basher , he wast miked at the previous venues but he is going to be miked at this place. i'm looking at a 4x12 cab loaded with celestions. thanks for the help guys. i guess the pa it is then |
