I noticed in the other thread... folks have had "brushes with greatnes"... maybe sharing the stage with "famous" musicians. So... if you have had a "brush with greatness... maybe this woul;d be a neat thread to share it with us...?
I've mentioned I jam with Artimus Pyle from Lynyrd Skynyrd from to time to time. I've hung out with... Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist), Joan Jett, Melissa Etheridge. Great White, Southside Johnny, Graham Parsons, Jane Weidlin... mayebe a fww more. You? |

hi i used to date Susan Tedeschi (when whe was at berkeley) the blues singer who is now married to derek trucks.
this is not music related but I also am an actor and will have a close-up scene with "The Rock" dwayne johnson in the upcoming movie "The Game Plan"
Hey bobz i heard GC gave you a rebate on that guitar i thought they would, if you went above there heads i was very glad to see that, it was worth all that hair pulling (Doh) to get it im really happy you got that and not a credit!

Thanx Road... Yep, I got the vined Scruggs for $158.98 (eventually) it's worth that at least. and... I think that's why we have this "miscellaneous" section anyways... so we can post whatever we want here. Not a bad ex- girlfriend you had there. I've hung out with Howard Stern too, forgot to mention that but mainly... I was thinking of brushes with greatness involving musicians. Anything interesting, such as your ex is welcome though too. It's all pretty interesting to me. |

This is going to sound like Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, but...I have played with guys who have played with Peter Green, Dave Gilmore, Ten Years After, Danny Thompson, Beverly Martin. One guy I played with supported Yes at Steve howe's first gig. "Good luck with the new guy." Hmm. Worked out ok, I think.
I also have the distinction of playing with a band that appeared on Live Aid. At the 'alternative' Live Aid, however, at a place called Pott Shrigley near Macclesfield, attended by about 150 stoners and a bunch of sheep. The video screen showed the cricket most of the afternoon, I heard.
This is my superb set of rock and roll references. No wonder I'm an English teacher. Sigh.

Hey Bobzilla,
I see you know Great White. In the "What's In Your CD Player" thread I mentioned the Aussie band The Angels. Did you know that Great White covered one of their songs? It was called "I Can't Shake It".

Munch, I didn't know that. And I forgot to mention I hung out with Steve Howe for several hours one day as well. How the heck could I forget that one. I was looking at some photos of me and Great White just last week. I think one of the guys is gone now. The only problem with being so close to Steve Howe when he's playing is.... you kinda never want to play guitar again in your life. Even though you're watching him play, you still can't believe what you're seeing, he is far beyond phenomenal. He's just about incomprehensible. |

You may know that Little Richard is an ordained minister. I met him and stood talking to him for quite a while when he visited the school where I was teaching English. Nice guy, but not a great preacher.
I have a hot rod club friend who played drums on the Bangles recording of "Walk Like an Egyptian," and his brother is an endorser for Gibson and has a Grammy for some university recording project.
Ah, the Great, and the Near Great.
Speaking of Great White, I now work for a company whose name has just been changed to Great Wide. You might guess this requires explanations quite often. |

no problem bobz i respect you and i think this thread was getting very interesting as well no worries here i didnt mean to put a damper on it. Its actually a great idea for a thread! loved the clapton and seals & croft stories.
a lot of people at least down here (rhode Island) dont think very highly of Great White or anyone connected to that fire.
so all you musicians who do gig be aware of how to get out of a packed club we even announce it to patrons when we gig! |

OK Road... duly noted. I also recorded with David Peel on an album called "King of Punk". David was on Apple Records for a while (I believe) and was definitley an associate of John Lennon's. |

Bob i don't think Peel was on Apple because all of the artist that were signed were earlier then when john met him. but I could be wrong. I met him at a Beatles convention in 1976 at the Sheraton in Philly. I always thought he was just a hanger on A-Hole even after John lost interest in him. How is he as a musician? |

Freak, your assesment of Peel is 10000000% on the mark. 100000000000000000%. He cannot be classified as a musician at all. "Hanger on" is a bit of a stretch though because it was Lennon who contacted Peel and chose to put his records out. Peel had stolen some Lennon possessions and had them at his apartment. That was about the coolest thing about the whole thing. (Not that he stole the stuff, but that I got to have it in my hands.) If you track the album down on line, you'll see I get a guitar credit (Bob Delia : Guitar). Peel is a loser. |

Freak... P.S. - you may find if it's available on CD somehow thru that link. I only have the vinyl LP. I also recorded on something called "The Poe Project" you can track that down on line, there may be a band called "Zebra" on there as well, that had a big release on Atlantic Records or something. Zebra was big around here, they were local boys... made good. An amazing amount of "well-knowns come from my neck of the woods.... Billy Joel, Blue Oyster Cult, Joan Jett, Mariah Carey... to name a few. All local "long Islanders. There's actually a boatload more of 'em from within a 20 mile radius around here on Long Island. Big names. Along the lines of those mentioned. They just actually opened up a "Long Island Rock n Roll Hall of fame because so many rockers have made it from this tiny geographical area. One of my songs "Tombstone Bound" is on an LP called "Americana Vol. 4" on Shut Eye Records out of Atlanta, I only got guitar credit by I wrote the song and have a lawsuit going on the copyrights, royalties etc. |
