That's a nice line up. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend. I know Gil Parris - he's a great guitar player - check him out! mk |

MK: Gil is very talented! I think you and I talked about him last year when he played the Festival. Here's a picture my buddy took of me an Gil, after his set.

John~Great line-up!! Be sure to check out Tim Bowman. He's another GB10 player, and very similar in style to Benson/Norman Brown/Doc Powell. Enjoy! |

Tim: It was a great show! Everyone was on. GB was the star of the show...again. The Guitars and Saxes group, which included Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum, Tim Bowman and Jeff Golub, ended the evening. They kicked butt. I'd never heard of Tim Bowman before. He was very good...too bad he played an ES175. GB was the only Ibanez player on the stage. Here's the guitars he brought on stage, GB12 and GB10: But he only played the GB10: Leaving for today's show in about an hour. |

What's the theory behind taping up the F-holes on George's guitars? -Chuck |

Maybe he's had problems out outdoor gigs with birds building nests inside Chuck. I think it's to eliminate feedback at loud stage volumes. |

Are you saying that even birds would prefer a GB10 to a Birdland? |

John~ Thanks for the review and great photos! Man, I wish I was at that concert!!! Benson tapes over his guitar 'F-holes' to supress feedback during live shows. Here's Tim Bowman WITH his sweet GB10NT. http://www.ruomal.com/site1/7529_05.swf |

You'd think GB would have something a little more professional than Scotch Tape stuck to his guitar! Surely he could have some custom-made rubber inserts that would snugly locate in the f-holes? |

OK, here's some pictures from Sunday's performances. First up is Gil Parris. He is always very good. Here he's playing his custom made Artinger semi-hollow. Artinger Guitars is out of PA, they do beautiful work. www.artingerguitar.com Next... make my day...it's Clint's son, Kyle Eastwood. He's a very accomplished bass player and composer. He played two 5 string electric basses, this green one and a black one: Here he is asking the audience who stole the bottom half of his upright . Next was Joshua Redman. Joshua, his bass player and drummer kicked it with some pretty straight ahead jazz. OK, this is a picture of Earl Klugh with a guy I like to call RastaMon. Now that's a head of hair! Earl's style on the nylon string is so delicate, it can get lost in the mix very easily. But when they got the volume turned up he was so tasteful it was simply scrumptious! Earl played with Bob James. A master on the keys! I think the James/Klugh performance was the highlight of the day. Branford Marcalis finished off the evening/festival. I don't think he was very happy that two thirds of the crowd left before he came on.

Fantastic photo essay, John. I especially like the last one of Branford. Very artsy glow to it. |
