just got this electra 335 copy. Paid $570.00 US for her. Need to have the nut and pickups changed. I bought a set of Ibby super 58's. the work should be done in a week or two, i will update when i get her back.
any opinions on these old Electra's?
from what i can find out this is 1977 matsumoku made guit..

Bruceifer...Finally another member of the ICW recognises the Electra brand-and you got a real nice one ! Your new guitar is a model # x410 known as the "JazzStrad". The AV stain, tortoise binding and pointy fret markers was also used on a bass and a LP clone (called the "Rock Strad")-all with highly figured tops...VERY NICE GUITARS-and, as you already know-very underpriced.
There are, much like Ibanez, several versions of this guitar-LS Headstock, Transition Headstock & Gumby headstock and -just like Ibanez-there are seveal variations of hardware including a floating and trapazoid bridge.
The nut and bridge on these guitars were originally SOLID BRASS and it sported a SLM (Saint Louis Music) signature TR cover. The original PUPS would have been "Super Magnaflux" (MK45)-awesome PAF clones-the 58's will do just fine.
Your going to love this guitar !

Brucifer...Also the originals of these "Strad" models all had clear pickguards from the factory-most likely to show off the flame |

I nearly bought the Elvin Bishop model about 3 years ago off a US seller but some other tasty piece got the better of me.

Six.....The "Elvin Bishop" model is nice, but the natural colored version known as the "Maple Pro" is truely a work of art and an outstanding guitar with figured maple top, back and rims, T-O-L ebony fretboard, brass nut and bridge and -of course-the Super Magnaflux.
Electra also made a 335 shaped guitar with no sound holes in black and AV called the "Custom Pro" which is such a perfect guitar and one that my fellow guitarist hate when I bring to gigs cause it cuts thru the mix like a hot knife thru butter-real LP KILLER !
I hate to rave about these guitars on an Ibanez forum, but they are really a great value (still) and the history of SLM has many similarities (up to and including the same factory) as Ibanez.... |

In 1981 a decision was made to merge SLM Electra brand with Matsumoku's Westone brand. At some point in the early 80's, some production is moved to Korea. In the fall of 1983, Electra brand becomes Electra-Phoenix. By early 1984 it became Electra-Westone and by the end of 1984 it is just Westone. In 1985, Electra Westone became Crate which is still around |

Someone from icw emailed me about buying the EMG's from my Electra..since i am a brain dead, drug casualty.. i deleted all my mail and can't remember who the potential buyer was...;} i think his icw name had "lespaul" in it? possibly first name Jeff? anyway you know who you are. please email me back if your still interested..
i should have my baby back around dec 10th. At which point i will elaborate on the new S58's and whatnot.

I got the Electra back today everything sounds good after a short test run. monday i will give it the real test when i rehearse with my band.
i have a question. maybe someone here can help?
my tech said the neck radius is 7 but the bridge radius(which is not the original bridge) is 12.
does anyone know where i can get a bridge that is closer to the neck radius? my only other option would be to have the neck planed and refretted which would be costly.

Brucifer, I have an extra original Electra solid brass bridge which should (?) be OK-its sized like a Gibb tune o matic. If the studs are the origials it should fit...Interested ? I'm just looking to cover postage and or anything interesting you might have to trade.... |
