hi all, I'm still trying to track down a copy of guitar stories vol 1. Here a question for you, why doesn't it go to reprint? there is a huge demand for this book. maybe if we all emailed Michael Wright it might just happen. In the mean time if you have a copy for sale please email me. |

Heymars: Let Michael know, for sure. Maybe a publishing will be interested in doing a reprint. The economics of publishing a book is not the easiest to comprehend. You may perceive a "huge" demand, but "huge" is relative. Take for example, you see one on ebay and end up bidding against 100 other bidders and maybe the bid gets to $150.00. That may seem outrageous and "huge". In reality the publishing company would need to sell thousands of books at $50.00 (just a guess) a pop to warrant starting up the presses to produce just one copy. One hundred, two hundred copies, it's just not enough demand. Electronic books are a better medium to serve a niche commmunity. |

I sent Wright an e-mail through Vintage Guitar last year asking the same question--why don't you reprint this book? Never got a reply, other than the request was forwarded to Wright. I think Johns hit the nail on the head as to why they don't re-pop this. Tonedef |

Heymars: "books go into reprint all of the time". Sure, but only those that the publisher feels will make money. Like those that they have advanced orders for, through established distribution channels. In reality, there are thousands of books every year that never sell out their first printing and are returned, remaindered, sit in a warehouse, maybe sold off to used dealers, and finally destroyed. Publishers never give these a second thought...unless something extraordinary happens, like renewed interest for some reason. "has anybody confirmed that vol 1 will not be reprinted?" I've talked to Michael several times over the last few years. The last time I asked, there were no plans to reprint Vol. 1. But letting the publisher (or the copyright holder, who can take it to another publisher) know of the demand could change this. You also might want to try contacting JK Lutherie. As far as I know, they were the last distributors and would be likely to have their finger on the pulse of the guitar collecting community. "Ask and you shall receive." (Maybe ) |
