Anybody ever notice that when you go to Guitarenter.com and select "Buy Online" that you get connected to Musicansfriend.com?
Are they the same company? |

GC "farmed out" its online business through MF. I'm not sure if there was an aquisition involved or just a partnership. The last time I was in GC the salesguy referred me to MF!

Musicians Friend is owned by Guitar Center (Nasdaq GTRC). It's just part of the trend we've been seeing where each industry is bought out by huge corporations until they have a monopoly.
It's like when Wal-Mart moves into a town and undercuts everyone else's prices until all the mom & pop stores go out of business. Then they can charge whatever they want.
Soon, the manufacturers will be making only what Guitar center orders. Gibson is already making guitars under contract with GC that can only be sold through them.
Sorry for the rant but I've been studying this trend and its impact on commerce for a while. |

Banjo...if you want to hear some great "rants" on this subject-which is facinating to me too-go to Ed romans site....he has, beyond his obvious prejudices, some very valid points, especially when it comes to the "boutique" guitars or smaller reginal builders. Roman gets caught in his own retoric when he begins to hawk his own guitars-takes some steam out of his argruements I think-interesting reading though |

Yea Dave, I've been to his site before. He has some great rants. He also has a guitar store I'd drive an empty semi-truck to if I won the lottery. Seriously, I could pack a lunch and spend a week there spending. |
