Does anyone know anything about these English amps for jazz/blues or possibly rock?
Does anyone own one for firsthand experience or perhaps played through one at some point?
Any information, sound, cost, etc. on these amps would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi Arney
I've just bought an 80s Carlsbro Cobra 90watt transistor combo. Comes in a bombproof cabinet that is (just!) portable by one person; twin footswitcheable channels (clean and dirty), nice accutronics reverb unit and a Celestion G12H 100Watt speaker. I bought this as a functional unit to do small gigs with, and to be honest I didn't expect too much from the amp. After 20 minutes of use I put my effects board away, and just used the gain and overdrive controls on the amp. It's really good for traditional rock and blues. I haven't used the clean channel much, so can't really comment on that. This little gem only cost £50 on eBay; they are relatively plentiful here in the UK.
Carlsbro also do Class A valve heads, and have done so since the 60s. Their 50W valve head I think is similar in circuitry terms to a Marshall Plexi.
Good amps. If you can get one I would snap it up! |
