Did you see him playing this gimmick? Basically he plucks a chord out of a selection of about four sus chords on those other necks and basically playing like on a regular acoustic, something that's not too far from Steve Vai and that 3 neck guitar of his in one of the G3 shows (what do you think of that one?) btw, here's Michael Hedges doing his thing and my favourite Pierre Bensusan

I saw Pat Metheney playing that 42 string guitar on Ramsey Lewis' "Legends of Jazz" show. Basically he gets some wonderful sympathetic drones going from the various string groups and then plays a melody on the fretted necks. Very beautiful sounds...especially from such a guitar master as Metheney. On the show, Pat played the intro to a song on the 42 string, then he switched to an early PM signature guitar. Single pickup with single round cutaway. Sounded fantastic!! |

Tim: I saw him play it live. There's a DVD of a concert filmed at a winery in CA (I believe) where he plays the song with the Picasso. I forget what it's called, but I'll check tonight. |

I need 6 or 7 axes on stage to accomodate open tunings I use and so forth... and for 12 string songs.... I think I'd rather have the bunch of axes around me than carry Rick's axe on my back. But... part of being on stage is "performing" and "theatrics" so... a 5 neck axe is just part of the show I guess. It's a famous guitar, eveybody's seen it. If I owned it, I would like it. I like it anyway. What's the deal with that baby blue strat with 900 necks? |

Bob Some people (in this case artists) have way too much time on their hands. but it would make a great conversation piece if displayed at home. |
