Ok guys, not sure where to put this , so here it is. I was at a local pawn shop to see what they had and i ran across a lp copy. no name no serial number except a small thin piece if paper with a number 5 digits long. There were no markings on the neck plate, was a bolt on neck. No name anywheres except, the hang tag from the pawn shop said it was an Ibanez. It was beat up pretty good. I noticed it was sandwiched consruction, in some kind of brown busrt. Selling for us$ 600.seems way to high considering there was no way, for me in my limited knowledge, to know for sure if it was an ibanez. Any thought ???????? |

Hi Bob, it sounds all too vague to spend $600.- on it. Several Japanese firms produced LP replicas. I've seen sandwich constructions on my Sakai Thinline Tele and Kasuga Custom Tele, so that doesn't say anything either. And I've seen sandwiched LP copies here with all kinds of brands. The fact that there is NO MARKING AT ALL ON THE NECK PLATE is what should bother you the most. "Made in Japan" would point in the right direction, but doesn't guarantee anything. And if it's "beat up pretty good" - whatever that may be - I would keep my money in my pocket. For example a gold top Hondo LP would do $100-200 in good shape. It's often just cheap crap. And if you want to be sure, plug it in. If it sounds like crap, it is most likely... crap. Ginger |

Texas...Don't even waste your time, without the Ibanez on the headstock that guitar is worth less than $100-unless it has some pups in it that are worth $...I once bought a Penco that had an original pair of PAF's in it......The fact is that the these "lawsuit" guitars are only valuable if they have the Ibanez name on them, otherwize they are just players. Ginger, other than the stock Dimarzios that the later Hondo's came with, arent all of the Hondo's LP's plywood bodies ???? |

Yeah, you could be right there. I got offered one for 100 euros a few years ago. Cheap piece of crap, indeed. I didn't bite of course. Hondo II is better. I have an nice ash 75 jazz bass with humbucker pups from them for 90-99 euros or so, because the guitar seemed to lack every sustain. They put pieces of cardboard under the bridge saddles and the shop personnel was to lazy to remove the bridge cover. But when I removed the cardboard and the dull flatwounds and put some Warwick Red Labels on it and intonated it properly... man, what a sound! It's not an Ibanez, of course... but I saw the same bass humbuckers on an Ibanez here on the board. Mine is... just a player... but a good one. Ginger |
