I just picked up a vintage Matao neck-through guitar; not an ibanez, but I'm going to guess definately Japanese and with many similar features to some of the Hoshino models. It's somewhat Musician-like. I have some pics and info at http://staff.washington.edu/ptewson/matao.html. I had actually seen one other similar Matao guitar to this at a guitar store here in Seattle, but can find no information about his model on the web. Does anyone know anything about the origins of this guitar? Thanks. |

Thanks . . . I feel like I'm going to hang onto her for a while at least, but if the urge overtakes me I will keep you in mind! |

I've seen a couple of El Degas guitars with that same body shape, so they presumably came from the same factory. I wouldn't be surprised if those aren't the original pickups. Unfortunately exactly who El Degas used in Japan to make their guitars is something I have yet to figure out, although I have some suspicions that at least some of them came out of Matsumoku, and that El Degas may have used more than one Japanese factory. |
