ahoy there! i recently sold an old ibanez jumbo acoustic guitar on ebay, the winning bid was a bid from israel.. now i have a problem. usps maximum shipping size to israel (it's weird, also to many european countries) is 42" max length and a max girth of 79". the guitar fails on both counts.. what can i do? how do you ship your guitars overseas? ups is out of the question.. over 300 usd. thanks for the suggestions. |

Snap the neck off and send it in 2 boxes. Or... tell the guy it's too much of an ordeal to ship it to Israel so you are re-listing it. Buyer is responsible for shipping costs anyway... correct? Whatever it is, it is. He should have to pay it. I'm looking for an old Ibanez jumbo, sell it to me. |

I sold a guitar to Israel just recently. The guy claimed he had several companies ship USPS for less than $100, but I took it to 3 local PO's and they all said the same thing....$450 minimum. As a result, the guitar is still sitting in the box in my house and he refused to complete the deal. Never to Israel and there are several other countries that have the same restriction. You may as well re-list it or sell it to Bobzilla! |

Bobzilla, Unfortunately the buyer has an address in France and the size qualified for the shipping, so perhaps next time? |

hey guys, I realize it is a problem mailing guitars from the usa to other countries but please keep in mind that the size/weight limits are actually determined thru treaties with these countries. There are actually some countries that you cant mail anything to. I look for all of this to change rather soon. A new law was passed on how the usps does business and there will be major changes in the next two years. First a forever stamp will be issued on apr 12, it costs .41 cents and is good forever for 1st class postage, whatever the then current rate is. next, maybe as soon as this christmas(2007), there will be sales, as in, mail 2 parcels , mail a 3rd for free, as an example. Im glad i have 25 yrs in so if things get real hairy i can retire . I really think maybe the size/weight limits will change also. As a foot note, when rates went from .37 to .39 for a letter, the usps did not get any of that money, congress got it ALL , it was a tax increase in disquise, and went for some pet project of congress |
