This is not intended to be a negative rant. I appreciate what JohnS has put together and maintained here. It's great to have a place to go and talk/learn about Ibanez gear with a few knowledgeble folk. I do wonder with all do respect how many of these guitars are actually played. Seems like most "poster's" lean to the aesthetic side and a good majority of the posts are of that focus. Don't get me wrong I like a pretty guitar just like the next guy. I realize that some things are quite subjective like tone, set-ups, preference of neck radius and so on. I do find this stuff more interesting than replating a cloud tail piece. (ducking for cover). I'm sure if I went back and searched the archives I would find posts that are more related to playing these things. Maybe it would be nice to have a "player's" section where you could go and talk stuff like what guitar in what gig situation?/recording a full hollow without feedback? and actually get a response. Hey maybe I'm all wet and wrong about this. I know there is an established group here and that's a good thing. But couldn't we do a bit more than sharing E-bay auctions? |

I hear ya, Boo. I don't collect guitars for sake of collecting and most of mine are rather plain looking. All of them do get played at least occasionally. However, I have too many to claim they are ONLY for making music! I'm back up to 12 again. 9 are Ibanez. Steve |

OK...How about new discussion Thread Headers, such as: "Ibanez Instruments in Action" "Player's Only" "Sound Stage" "Ibanez Recording Studio" "Out Of The Closet" I love beautiful guitars as much as the next person, but if they don't get played, they don't stay. I'm not a 'pro' player, but I recorded all of these songs with my Ibanez guitars (2630, AR2000 and a beater Ibz. Strat copy) except for a Yamaha classical on one song. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/ladyc |

Boo, Mr. Roadstar, Guitar Tim. Sounds like a good idea. I like "The Players Lounge", but am open to more suggestions for the name of the section. Give me a day or two to put it together. |

I think "Player's Lounge" sounds very cool. I'm disappointed in you, Mr. R-Star--I thought you were thinning the collection... Tonedef Tonedef |

Boo....I must admit I'm a little confused at your post. I have been fan, collector and player of guitars for over 30 years. I am a regular visitor to this board and really enjoy the variety of discourse that this brand generates. Please don't confuse members passion for the fit , feel and quality of these guitars with their loyality to the guitars that they choose to play. I have been playing my Deluxe 59er for over 20 years now and greatly appreciate all of my Ibanez from the AR5000 to the ST50-sure as a collector , I have a bunch of Gibsons-but when I want ot play, I reach for the 59er because its light, the neck is thinner than my REAL 59 Black Beauty & the Super 70's sound every bit as good, even better IMHO than the vintage PAF's-more gain, less "MUD". Yea I have a collection of vintage guitars and , no I'm not currently in a band-but I'm not a poser and I don't think that ya have t be a active musician to appreciate these guitars. I get to go to my weekly "over the hill" jam sessions with a couple of vintage guitars for me and the gang to try out. They never know what to expect and I have -in three years-never brought the same guitar twice. I get to play and hear these vintage gems and have even created some "set neck american made snobs" into believers and Ibanez fans by sharing my collection with them. If these guitars were built lously or were a pain to play -do you think so many people would be interested in them? Ibanez made a great product with an interesting heritage and historical significance to the growth of the guitar in POP culture. I think that , on this board, the majority of the posters, especially the regulars are already past the accolades to the quality of the guitars including the tone, neck radius, fret size, capacitor values, headstock angle, pickup resistance etc , etc and so on and will, at times, deal with the minute of replating, replacing a nut, or refinishing a guitar. It's the variety of posts that is interesting. |

Hey guys thanks for the responses. After re-reading my original post, I could have been a bit more tactful. I honestly didn't mean to push anyone's buttons. Yes Dave G, you are not the first person I've confused. We share some of the same opinions. May I say I do not "confuse" the passion for quality with the guitar one chooses to play. To me thats all part of it. I don't believe I called anyone a "poser" because they choose to collect or are not currently in a band. Hell most "poser's" I know are in working bands. My "replating" analogy was a bad one. Those kind of discussions are helpful, interesting and necessary on a board like this. More minute the better. I realize the people who come here know and appreciate the quality of Ibanez. As far as accolades to the quality, I don't believe I have ever rounded up a praise session or asked for one. If I have, I apologize to regulars that are "past" it. I totally agree that it's the variety of the posts that make this place interesting. I originally posted this topic because lately I've seen a lack of interest in the "player" type questions or topics. (Again, "player" as in playing the guitar not a pro or working musician.) Am I imagining things? Probably. It's not the first time. To those who got my jest I love the "Player's Lounge" Idea. No E-bay auctions ok?? (just kiddin') Great stuff GuitarTim. B |

I'm not running a retirement home for old guitars so each one has to go out and earn some money for me. Especially after I have restored it or rescued it from a nutter with a router. I don't expect each guitar to pay its way totally. Just a little contribution back into my wallet. I also feel less guilty when my wife asks... "Is that another new one?" six |

In quick response to everyone's replies, I enjoy all of the discussions here. I play all of the Ibanez guitars in my "collection". Are they collectible specimens? Some are, others have been permanently modified to suit my needs. They sound great and play better than any other guitars I pick up. I'm beginning to think that I would get some strange looks if I brough one of my Ibanez into a G.C. - doubt they're EVER had a guitar in their store that plays that good. LOL. Segregation is fine, but I think this entire forum is essentially "Ibanez Appreciator's World". It's all about a brand of guitar we all love, for whatever reason. A BIG thanks everyone involved for giving me information, resources, opinions, and eye candy. I think it's all valid, useful, and entertaining. |

Yo Boo I know where you’re coming from. I see my guitars as tools, 1 acoustic and 2 electric’s. My son borrowed my heavily modified Ibanez until he got his first guitar at Xmas. During this time I started to play my 71 Les Paul and have now retired the Ibanez to its case awaiting it’s next makeover and play the LP exclusively. Although lack of disposable income restrains my guitar buying I couldn’t justify having more than what I have now – although a Strat beckons When I see some of these large collections I often wonder why? The one-upmanship of ‘my collection’s bigger than yours’ is also the main reason I don’t post as much on this (and other) forums. The worst example of this is the LP forum Everyman to his own but I don’t get the time to spend now on my guitars. |

Billy, Hey sounds like ya need to make more time for guitars-you obviously enjoy 'em. Why bash people with large collections just cause you "dont get the time to spend" on your guitars ? It aint "one ups-manship"-I think that , for the most part the posters on this site have a genuine desire to share their enjoyment of these fine instruments and increase their knowdlege via this board. No reason to wonder why some folks have larger collections than others, some folks simply choose to find "more time" to enjoy their collections.. |

Anyway, what one does with ones collection isn't anybody else's business. Is it? Dave has a good point about having the time to devote yourself to hobbies, obsessions (no offence to the obsessed here) or what have you. Owning, collecting, buying/selling guitars, call it what you like has been with me for most of my guitar playing life. That’s about 28 years so you can imagine the kind of stuff that’s passed through my hands. In 2004, I became a father for the first time at 44. Now my world has changed and apart from living in another country now, I can no longer just go and jump in my car and wizz about looking for collectable guitars. A lot of my time is spent doing things for my wife and daughter now. Plus, I can’t be reckless by taking a chance and pi**ing a months wages on a rare beaut like I used to. Back then, I only had myself to keep; and eventually my wife, who, I explained to the first day I met her that I had terrible GAS! You know what I mean. So, to quote old Shakey: "To buy, or not to buy: that is the question" Hamlet Act III, Scene I). "Neither a borrower nor a lender be" (Act I, Scene III). "This above all: to thine own self be true". - (Hamlet Act I, Scene III). "Though this GAS be madness, yet there is method in 't.". - (Act II, Scene II). Philosophically yours six I know this is gonna be too much for you simple thinking Yankees |

Thanks for enlightening us Six, who knew Shakespeare was a guitar collector? I think there are 2 distinct groups here, the 'players' and the 'collectors'. This is not to say that the collectors don't play their guitars. But a collector would be likely to keep a guitar that does not get played if it has collectable value, while a player will most likely dump a guitar that doesn't add to their arsenal of tones somehow. I think that both groups can coexist here. And even though threads are dominated by late '70s guitars, I'll continue to post on my '90s MIJ Ibanez guitars -Sven |

Claudio: You're pardoned. Thanks for reminding me about something else I had forgotten to do! The Players Lounge is now open for business! It's BYOI (Bring Your Own Ibanez). Entrance is through the Topics page. Please read the description of the section's intent before posting messages. Now, where's Boo and all these other "players"? |
